Husband did something to my car so I can not start it.

Hi Debra:
If this was intentional I suggest that you have troubles other than your car.
If it was no intentional then perhaps you could ask him to describe what he did, share that information with us, and hopefully someone will be able to assist.

Our 2004 Dodge Dakota with automatic transmission downshifts at 53 mph. Skids tires. Any ideas what it may be?

Sensor? Go to garage and get scanned. Hopefully it's just a sensor. Scan should not cost much. Either will sensor compared to transmission rebuild/replacement.

Its not your mass airflow sensor or what ever the shops told you. Your v-tec solenoid is eaither very clogged up, dirty or just went bed. Have it replced, or replace it yourself. Its not that hard. Just set a couple of hours aside and tackle it. And most of the time you can but it at your local autozone, napa or advance auto. Heres a picture to show you what it looks like....

When I start driving the brakes feel like they skid until I hit 35mph then abs light comes on and car is fine. had abs light read and nothing came up garage said it would have to be "brain box" if this...

First thing I would do is have somebody (husband maybe) stand on the street and drive by and hit the brakes in front of them so they can watch for the wheels locking up and sliding. See if the wheel is actually sliding, which one it is. If one is locking up have your husband take the wheel off and look for a brake fluid leak. Find the root of the leak. If no leaks I would definately have a shop check the abs system. Most of the time on a ford the abs light has to be on to get the trouble code, I would look for a more knowlegeable shop. The brain box is the abs module which controls the system, they do go out but rarely. You want someone to install it that knows how to do the job correctly, and with your safety on the line I would make dang sure they knew what they were doing. Good luck!

THE DASHBOARD

I am having the same problem as we speak with my 98 Grand Am. I purchased a Instrument Cluster from a salvageyard and it send it into 'Theft Mode'. My local garage said they are going to try and do this to it...they heard through the grapevine that it would work...I guess we will see.

  1. Replace old IC
  2. Turn key over and then turn it back immediately
  3. leave key in the 'on' position (with lights and such showing) and wait for 10 minutes
  4. Turn key to 'off' position for :30
  5. Should reprogram itself at this point and work
Like I said ...they are doing this as we speak, so hopefully it will work and I can report back to you shortly that I saved myself $200 not having to have the GM garage reprogram it!!
