Question about 2007 Toyota Yaris

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Toyota Yaris. It won't move forward or reverse when shift to the correct gear and with handbreak off. It feels like something is locking up the wheels. Engine transmission sounds fine and there's no error indicator on the instrument panel. Please help.

    The car doesn't roll in neutral. I jacked up the car and tried spinning the rear tyres, they couldn't move. The car was last driven 2 days ago.

    The technician came and fixed the problem. Turn out to be a simple problem. One of the rear wheels was locked because when it got wet, pulled the handbreak and when it dried up, it creates a vacuum inside the braking pad and this locked up the wheel.

    Sounds like rear brakes frozen. Car should be front wheel drive. Jack up front and try to turn tires.

Can anyone tell me what this is. It is on a 2006 Chevy impala. It has something to do with shifting the car. Ithink it makes the box around my gear indicator work. I.E. P R [N] D 1 2

P=park gear position (no gear selected)
R=reverse gear position
N=neutral gear position (no gear selected)
D=top gear
2=fixed highest gear (used for speed when climbing an average incline and to control speed on decent)
1=fixed lowest gear (used for climbing steep incline or descending slowly)
Note-: Never engage Reverse gear when traveling forwards and never put into Park when moving forward or backwards, also towing most autos should be done no more than 10mph, fast towing can damage the gearbox, also make sure gear is in Neutral when towing.

Will go in gear but car will not move

If the car does not move either forward or in reverse gear, then it may be due the following defects:
- Inner cup of one of the CV Joints may have jumped out of the transmission. (Simply push it back in the transmission forcibly)
- Torque converter damaged.
Or there could be something which has gone bad within the transmission assembly, for example:
1. Manual valve.
2. Valve body assembly.
3. Planetary gear unit.
4. Forward clutch.
5. Number 2 one-way clutch.
6. Reverse clutch.
7. 1st and reverse brake.

I have recently purchased car VITZ , also being sold has by the name of Yaris in Europe. It has automatic gear transmission P - Parking N - Neutral D - Drive R - Reverse But its gear has also abbreviation...

I suspect gears are arranged in the same manner as US-marketed vehicles, PRND21, with B and S representing a mid and low gear. Not sure where you are in the world or what the original market for the VITZ is, but the Yaris is sold in the US as well.

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.

It uses transmission fluid, that fluid is controlled by a computer that actuates solenoids to shift the trans to diff gears
