Question about 2009 BMW X5
2008 and 2009 bmw 3.0 x5 hesitation problems. Severe hesitation upon accelerating at low speeds, passing at high speeds...when stepping onto the gas pedal there is very often a severe hesitation, sometimes as much as a 2 or 3 SECOND delay before the engine kicks in to pass. VERY VERY dangerous! HELP! BMW Canada says this is a charcteristic of this vehicle. If this vehicle drove like this on test drives they would never be able to sell it.
You step , leave the gas pedal , (you may engage sport)and re-step the pedal (so no turbo lag will be felt)

Use 92 octane gas. These cars don't like 87 octane. The computer retards the engine timing which causes the hesitation. If the computer did not ****** the timing you would get valve ping or engine knock.

This is a common problem with the 3.0 with throttle by wire. It can be solved by a dealer reflash of the computer. There are also after market programs available in the $200 -300 range
