Question about 1989 Chevrolet Corvette

1 Answer

Battery goes dead on 1989 corvette if not used for 5 to 7 days.

On my 1989 corvette I have replaced the battery often. I dis-connected all fuses except the security system and it still continues to discharge the battery in 5 to 7 days. I disconnected the fuse on the security system with all the other fuses connected, but it will not start with the security disconnected. If I reguarly start the car once every 2 to 3 days, the battery usually has enough power to start. I have learned to disconnect the negative terminal cable on the battery if I know it is going to set for a period of time and by doing this I have no problem. The starter has been checked and is okay. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thank you. .

My 1981 corvette won't start...there is no power getting from the battery to the can i fix this? I have tried charging the battery and jump starting it. I have also purchased a new battery....

If you have no power to anything, such as headlights
radio/wipers etc. The fusable link at the starter may
have fried. Try using a jumper wire from the battery connection on the alternator to the + post on the batt.
If you get you're power back, replace the link wire.
It's a rust colored wire on the battery con. at the solenoid. They somtimes have a yellow tag with the amp rating. This was a fairly common problem back
in the day. Also check for any shorted wires that may
have caused the link to pop, and make sure the alt.
starter and battery connections are clean and tight.
Hope this helps.

I have 2009 Corvette, with battery problems as follows: IT seems when it sits for a week or so the battery goes dead. The dealer could not find anything wrong except for a bad battery, so they replaced it....

it has a draw, and they will be best equipped to find it. There are more modules on that car than the shuttle. it may take them a while, its warranty right?? its just a process of elimination, removing modules/ components from the "LOOP" until the draw goes away. good luck

How does your bose stereo work? You might have a Bose head unit that is consuming power as it sits.

Stored my 1989 corvette for the winter. Just tried to start it, and the battery is dead. I jump started the car and it ran for about 7-8 minutes and then shut off. Had to re-jump and again, car won't

At first blush, sounds like corrosion on the battery cables either at the battery or at the other end at the alternator or starter. There are several sprays at the auto parts store that will clear the corrosion but the best way is to remove the cables and clean both the cable ends and the posts. Once you're able to rule out the cables/connections having the charging system checked would be next point of order but its more likely to be the cables. A car that won't run on it's own isn't getting enough power from the alternator so I'd check the negative cable first.

Battery goes dead when car sits 3-5 days 98 park ave

Obvious that something is drawing down the battery...Put a test light between the negative cable and the negative post of the battery (remove cable first) start pulling fuses till light goes out. That will tell you what system is can then begin looking for the actual problem. If all fuses pulled and light remains on ,chances are you have an internal alternator problem.
