I have already taken my car to the AutoZone for testing and no abnormal code was found. The fluid was changed along with the filter and it was refilled once but the problem still continued.

It sounds like the shift lever adjustment is a bit off. This is why your neutral light is coming on. This would also make it difficult to shift into gear. As it warms up, just enough expansion from the higher temp makes it seem normal. Check for adjustment

Sounds as if The Transmission and Cooler Both Need to Be "FLUSHED" as What you Discribe Suonds Like There is Debree in the Trans. Hydro System. Also Cold Starts should Be Acompanied By WARM UP of 3-5 Mins Before Driving. this is Good for them. I Hope this Sheds Light On your Problem and Helps Be Rid of it.

Somewhat of a common problem with these cars. Try using a different transmission fluid for colder weather or at least filling it up if it is low and see if that helps. You should also check the Speed Sensor and replace it and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, it may need a transmission overhaul in the near future if that doesn't work.

Before doing anything else, I would take it to AutoZone and have the trouble codes read (they do this for free), if it is the speed sensor, it should come up on the codes. Let me know how this turns out.

Well since you already did that, I would first try replacing the speed sensor since it is the next cheapest thing, then I would take it to a transmission shop for them to take it apart since the transmission is failing it sounds like since any other problem should come up on the codes.

1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport speedometer isn't working. Replaced speed sensor and the output sensor. Also it's not shifting until driven for about 15 minutes and then it starts to shift normal.

I have the same shifting problems with 3 Toyotas.
I have not found a cure, but here is a suggestion.
Likely the slow shifting is sticking valves or pistons in the transmission.
Try to have the transmission serviced, by changing the fluid and the filter, if it has one.
I should recommend you go to a "highly spoken of " local transmission shop.
I have had really bad results with national brands, who are very determined to overhaul your transmission for a few thousand dollars.
Ask your local shop about the speedometer problem.
God bless your efforts.

Well when you are in cold weather and after a high mileage. The Transmission solenoids fails when its cold and they get stuck for a moment and all i can say is that you warm your car for a while before you leave your house and thats good for the engine too and aslo will keep your car running for a long time. Good luck

Montero Sport, Automatic transmission fluid change

Ok, Mobil atf is more of a universal fluid, where Mitsubishi atf would be specifically formulated to be used in their products. Personally I would use the Mitsubishi as it is brand specific, but you can use either one with more than likely no problems.

The automatic transmission is stuck in 3 gear.

Definitely, there's a problem with your transmission. You are right, it is overheating. It is
caused by worn out part inside your transmission.
Have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
