Question about 1994 Pontiac Trans Sport

94 pontiac transport no start

I have fuel,spark, injector pulse and correct fuel psi. Turn key to start and tries to start. Runs for 3sec or so and dies. New crank sensor, mass air flow. Van has problem with intermiten no start before, but would after setting. Ecm has been replaced. Fuel psi reg has been replaced. Still nothing. Any ideas? I don't own a scan tool and the van is not OBD2. By the way its a 3.8L

Some of those vans came with an anti-theft passlock system, it's a small chip in the key-- if equipped, the sensor in the ignition lock cylender failed alot with the early systems, with similar symptoms

Some models of other cars have same feature as mentioned... Chrysler for example where if batery is dissconnected you have to open and lock the driver side door 3 times for unlocking the system again... to ensure that you have the right key, worth a try perhapps :o)

What causes o low injector pulse


Is that static pressure with key on, engine off? Or engine running pressure? Both should be near 60, usually key on, engine off pressure will be about 3 or 4 psi higher.
If it runs good after starting, the injector pulse must be good. No reason why starting and running pulse should be different. Only difference is when running, fuel pump power is kept on by the oil pressure switch, whereas in starting, the fuel pump relay keeps the pump on. Very unusual, let us know. Measure voltage at one of the injector's power wire with key on. It should be battery voltage or very close.

You would put on a new crank sensor because the ignition system won't work, it gives no spark. So now do you have spark at a spark plug wire end? A blue consistent spark? Probably good ignition system, as long as all spark plugs get a spark.

One thing you always want to check with no start is the fuel pressure. Turning the key to on should turn the fuel pump on and put pressure in the fuel rail at the engine. Autozone and maybe others rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. Multi-port injection systems have high pressure specifications, around 40 psi normally. That is what the injectors require to spray out fuel when they pulse and open the nozzles.

With the injector circuit, the first thing to check is if each injector has power to it with the key in ON. One power wire and one ground wire goes to each injector. The power wire is from a fuse that is powered with key on or key in start, and then it is spliced to all of the injectors. The injector grounds all run into the engine computer, where the circuit can be internally grounded for a split second and cause the injector to pulse. But anytime the key is on, the injectors have steady voltage available to them.

The fuel pressure has to to 35 to 45 psi. And no low fuel pressure will not cause no injector pulse.The veicle sounds more like a idle air control problem why? because as you stated it runs rough when it does start.Get it to start sysle the key you will hear the fuel pump go on cycle it three times then start it up. when the vehicle warms up take the idle air valve out and clean it with carburator cleaner or even brake cleaner you may even want to do the throttle body itself this should help with the hard start up and rough running

2006 beetle no start no spark or injector pulse. Replaced crank sensor , no luck. Fuel pump runs.


No spark no injector pulse your saying you check pulse. With the key in the igition is there a key sign flashing and does the key have a battery for alarm. For the fuel pump to operate it need a crank signal so you got the crank correct but no spark so the crank works. Can you check the ignition for pulse you know how it is shape its curved on one side staight on the other side well the curve side and at that end is the ground after that on is the control from ECM. If you can check pulse there then we can go to the ECM . What I am trying to get at is this your alarm is the only thing beside the ECM that can cause this.

First see if you key have the anti theft pellet,or wile starting the car is the security light is flashing.you're anti theft may be active and prevent you're engine from start by cutting off the injector pulse

I have a 1997 pontiac bonneville, will not start. Turn the key on and the fuel pump runs and has the right psi but when you crank it, the fuel pump pressure drops to 0 and you cant here the pump run. What...


the most common would be the crank sensor on these that good bad, there is a fuel pump relay, but these really dont go bad,start by check for spark and injector pulse,if the relay wasnt working you would not get the preasure with key on,another problem is the key chip, if your car has a chip then that your problem, may have broken wires in column, it can be bypassed with a resistor but may want a shop to do. also look inside ignition lock there are two sensors at the opening they are sping loaded to contact chip on key. sometimes they stick and dont make the contact,push lightly on them and see if they pop back out. start here. good luck.

Today after work my '04 Tiburon took like 6 trys to start? any suggestions or potential issues this is commenly related to?


try for temp use, turn key to on position and wait 3sec then try to start. You might have a fuel injector leaking pressure while system is shut off. There is also a fuel pressure regulator that is supposed to work as a check valve. If it leaks down psi then it could cause hard to start. By turning key and waiting the fuel pump primes for intial start.
