Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep 1999 horn, radio controls, and cruise control do not work. Also AirBag light is on but it has been on much longer before the 3 items above stopped working. I understand that it's probably caused by clock-spring? Yes or No? How difficult is it to get to clock-spring and see if connection is bad or replace it all together?

It is the clock spring. Need to remove the steering wheel as it is under it. Disconnect the battery for at least 2 minutes to disarm the airbag.

2001 f250 airbag light came on horn won't work or cruise controls or automatic hubs won't lock. Is this all connected? It happened at the same time

The horn switch and the air bag and cruise control wiring in the steering wheel go through the clock spring, ford calls it air bag sliding contact. The clock springs have been know to go bad.

Horn doesn't work, abs light on dash stays on and also cruise control does not work either

Typical reason for no cruise and horn is a bad clock spring underneath the airbag. Typically you have an airbag light on as well and not an abs light

if you unplug the clock spring on the back side and the horn will stop then remove the air bag and check the switches and wires inside the steering wheel

Steering wheel controls ie: radio controls, horn and cruise control only work occassionally

It sounds like the steering wheel needs to be removed and the rotator joint needs to be cleaned or replaced. I would not advise trying it myself because of the airbag.

Horn, cruise control, and radio controls on steering wheel do not work ?

The clockspring behind the steering wheel is possibly defective or unplugged. It is the one and only component that all of your symptoms have in common.

Horn on my 1999 Ford Taurus

does your cruise control work? the reason is that there is a what is called a clockspring harness in the sterring wheel under the airbag, if your airbag light is flashing chances are this harness is broke and will need to be replaced,  The airbag, horn, and cruise control all go throught this clockspring harness.

2001 town & country. My airbag/seat belt light came on, cruise control and horn stopped working. Dealer said it was the "clock spring" and usually covered as a recall item.

I guess the cruise control buttons are located on the steering wheel...

You have a bad clockspring (contact reel in the steering wheel), all the mentioned items (wheel mounted cruise buttons, horn buttons, airbag) are run through it.

Where the wheel is able to turn a couple of turns on either side, normal wires could not be setup to withstand this. The clockspring (contact reel) is a flat wire wound up to be able to withstand the rotation.

They are not an item I would recommend replacing by yourself, where airbag systems have a procedure which must be followed to make sure you don't accidentally deploy the bag and cause serious injury.
