You did answer my question. Thank you. I just wasn't sure how much to put in and if I had to add more after. This van is tricky because when I got it the freon was already recovered and I had to find out the psi rating too. Once I add the 3 oz I don't have to add any more?

    I got it. Thanks!!!

3 oz of oil should be good for the A/C system. You would put the oil in before sealing the system (right at the compressor and it will mix in) and then you would fill the system with refrigerant at the fill inlet. The pressure that the system should be at will be on a sticker under the hood right on the frame in front of the radiator. In some states it is illegal to fill it yourself and the refrigerant is cancerous so be careful when filling the a/c unit.

What instructions are you looking for specifically (how to replace the compressor and dryer?), did I answer the question already? Let me know how this turns out.

Can over filling your freon on a 2006 dodge ram deisel seixe the a/c pump/compressor?

Yes it can. Also if it it is not filled properly and moisture can enter the system. When replacing the compressor the filter dryer should be replaced and the system will need to be evacuated and charged with the proper refrigerant and oil .

Old compressor had no oil in it ,how much should i put into new compressor and dryer

What old compressor?
One not in the vehicle or the one in it?
If it leaked out while in the vehicle, when
the a/c did work ,then you lost several oz
from other components & may have burned
out the compressor as well.
Need a shop trained in refrigeration to work
on it, unless you have a vacuum pump & manifold
You need to look up the specs on the oil type & weight
also. This is just a chat room, see a dealer or shop with
a data base for that info, which is in factory service manuals
I assume you never bought.

How many ounces of r-134 to fully recharge air conditioner after replacing the compressor

Hello dmc384363,

If you have a single or dual zone unit it takes 31 ounces.
If you have the three zone unit (front and rear units) it takes 43 ounces.

You should read the documentation that came with the compressor to find the recommendation for the amount of refrigerant oil that is needed. Sometimes they come per-loaded with refrigerant oil.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Jerry

I want to re-charge my air conditioning on my 2001 dodge 2500, 360 engine. where is located?

This job requires special tools and special training. If you lack either, you risk SERIOUS personal injury. Injury comes VERY EASILY!

You need to address oil levels, proper and legal refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, and recharge.

You were planning to also replace the receiver/dryer, correct? It also needs the oil in it measured and incorporated into the amount of oil (in %) that would need to be added. FAILURE to address these and other issues will guarantee premature system failure and likely compressor damage.

Take this job to a qualified shop.

Sorry

How do I recharge the Air Conditioning system on my 2005 Dodge Caravan

This should be done by a professional. However I will share the basics with you and you are free to attempt at you own risk. Let me start off by stating that if your A/C system isn't working is either due to a leak or a component failure. You should first determine the reason for the problem and repair it. Once this is done you should evacuate the A/C system using a refrigerant recovery system and insure the system holds a vacuum. If it holds a vacuum then you can proceed to install the required R134A refrigerant and PAG oil. Oil in the system is very important to insure a long life for the compressor. There are two lines off the compressor, on small line (high pressure side) and one large line (low pressure side). Each line has a fitting on it. Sometimes the LP side will be on the dryer ( looks like a aluminum can about 4" round). With a vacuum in the system you attach the new refrigerant to the Low pressure side (big hose). Do not open the can until you have started the vehicle and have the A/C running with the fan on full. Once you have the engine running you can start opening the valve on the can to add refrigerant. However be sure not to over charge the system. A label under the hood should specify the correct amount. IE 2.2Lbs R134A
Once you have inserted about a pound of refrigerant you should notice the A/C compressor clutch locking in and starting to cycle. Once you have reached a 3/4 charge the clutch will stay engaged until the desired temperature inside is reached or until the head pressure on the pump becomes to high of hot.
That about it in a nut shell. You should also use a digital thermometer in the vents inside to see what the exiting air temp is. A 20 degree air difference between ambient vehicle air and A/C air is a good number.

Replaced the compressor in my 1999 Dodge Caravan. The pulley failed on the old one so I bought a new compressor with clutch. I recovered the R-134a and replaced the compressor. I recovered 1 oz of old from...

the new compressor was likely shipped pre oiled. it should have had a tag on it saying if it was oiled or not, and how much. if you added more oil, the system has probably been over oiled and hydro locked. recover the refrigerant again, if you are working with an actual automotive a c machine you should be able to draw that extra oz of PAG oil out, then recharge refrigerant. hopefully that will do it! otherwise, you could have a restriction in your system, possible from debris in one of the compressors, in which case you will need to flush the lines out. good luck!

There is a low pitched growling noise coming from the ac compressor of my 2004 grand caravan when engaged at idle. Compressor, belt, have already been replaced twice. Any thoughts?

Are you sure the noise is coming from the compressor and not the belt tensioner or other accessories, when you turn the ac on it put more of a load on the engine. If not since the compressor was changed twice was it properly oiled and the clutch turned manually to insure proper lubrication. I am hoping if it is the compressor that the reciever dryer and expansion valve was changed and the ac system was flushed well, to insure no contamination, or blockage damaging the new compressor.

Ac compressor oil

First off is your compressor pre-lubed? to find out, remove shipping caps from ports and tip to side and see if any oil comes out. As a rule of thumb, The oil is sold in a small bottle pre measured for the entire system. 1/4 bottle per item (compressor, evaporator, condenser, and filter/dryer) The label showing cc's will do fine for your oil needs as the system will find its own level once activated. Oil continuously flows througout system. Need I remind you that when replacing compressor you should also replace filter/dryer so you do not repeat this job in two months.
