when it dies and trying to start do you hear fuel pump ----when was fuel system checked ---also check egr valve --cat converter ----and any codes[[any lights blinking on dash ]]
Several things come to mind, most common is carbon in and on the throttle body and throttle plate, buy a cheap stiff tooth brush and some throttle body cleaner then remove the filter or tube and have at it until all carbon is gone. Remove then reinstall the TPS because the carbon was holding the throttle (and TPS open) when you installed or reset with carbon it's now "off" that far. Next is a leaking fuel pressure regulator or injector, find the fuel pressure test port and remove the plastic cap. Have someone turn the key off and as soon as the engine is off you depress the schreader valve to release pressure Note the spray. Now restart the engine then turn it off leave it sit until you're sure it won't start then (don't turn key) press the schreader valve if it's about the same not a problem if there's no fuel there you have a leak and if it's an injector it will usually miss at idle and the spark plug should show it after a while it will look "washed" on one side otherwise look at the regulator unplug the vacuum hose there shouldn't be any gas in it then run engine with the vacuum hose to the regulator off there should be no fuel coming from the regulator if there is replace it. I hope this helps. Take Care.
If it will eventually start and run, I would check the fuel pressure at startup. The fuel pump relay provides power to the pump for 3 or 4 seconds and if the computer does not "see" oil pressure it will not continue to power the pump. That is to prevent a fire in a wreck.
You might also want to check to see if you vehicle has an anti theft function i have the 95 lebaron and if the anti theft is activated it starts runs for a few second and dies. if battey dies or is replaced i have to go to the passenger door and put in the key and turn it 4-5 times then it starts and runs so try this first.
The first thing to do is make sure the battery is fully charged, then test for power at the starter, use a testlight to check for power at starter, the big cable at starter should have power at all times then the small wire should have power when the key is held in the crank postion if theres power at starter then replace the starter.
Follow the lines under the car from the fuel tank, if you don't see it somewhere along the lines near the rear half of the car, it does not have one. Many chrysler cars have changed to a screen in the gas tank which is changed with the fuel pump when it dies.
