The 1st thing you need to do is have the engine control module scanned for fault codes.

Keeping brake pedal down, move gear lever into drive, back to neutral and into reverse, give it a couple of seconds between movements. Last resort is to switch engine off and restart.

The ECU would have to match the part number EXACTLY. You're much better off getting your current ECU rebuilt and programmed by the rebuilder.

Mine wouldn't go into 1st and was crunching into reverse within 3 months of ownership,Mitsubishi have e mailed me saying that this is due to (a) wear and tear and (b) in a second e mail due to driver error, the dealerships opinion (c) is that it is normal and wearing in - all laughable really - its deffo a mechanical failure / breakage but Mitsubishi do not want to know or admit responsibility. If you problem was noted in the 1st 3 years of ownership and still under warranty and documented why not have it corrected and take them to court. Im sure you are not alone !!

make sure all the electrical connectors to the trans are properly connected. One of these plugs is for the shift control solenoids- not properly connected = no shifting. This happened during the repair operation which is why the car worked fine before the water pump was replaced.

So, what is? Have them say that 3 times in writing. I know California has a lemon law. 3,000 miles? Take it back under warranty and tell them you'll have your attorney pick it up when they determine what cause dthe failure.

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck

try changing the oil from your transmission.
