Question about 2004 Subaru Impreza

Filling Problem 2004 impreza ts wagon(257000kms): My check engline would go off and on day to day for about a month, then one day I couldn't fill my tank normally; the same as you takes 20 mins to fill it becuase the gas is only allowed to go in as fast as the venting out allows it because something is wronf witihin the venting system. I had my mechanic pull out the fill tube and test all solenoids and bypass them...and blew out all the vent lines, and they went to try fill it up and they got no where....unfortunatly It seems subaru went way overboard on the whole venting system for filling your tank.... so now, I'm thinkin the problem is on the valve that is on top of the tank...is it broken and stuck closed? or is there a safety overide that has that valve shut? i dont know. All i know is to get to the top of the tank looks like it will be a huge ordeal with high labor costs. The most frustrating part is i dont know eacatly whats wrong, i dont want to take it in and spend labor on finding the problem i just want to know.

There is an anti-syphoning screen inside the filler tube. The screens can get plugged up. To remove filler neck, there are three screws by the gas cap, and another 3 on the tank. Not hard at all. Just make sure your tank is less than 1/4 full

My 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX (automatic) has 71,000 miles and the check engine light came on today. Ther car still runs okay and was tuned up several months ago. Can I still drive it without damaging it?

When your check engine light comes on, the car is telling you there's a problem, but it's still okay to drive to your destination. When the check engine starts blinking at you, that means pull over and turn off the car before you incur more damage.
Please keep in mind that you shouldn't be driving it indefinitely without having your code checked (you can rent a code reader from most car parts stores) but that you probably won't kill anything if you drive it for a few more days.

No gas

There is a vent hose (rubber) attached to the fill tube, it's much smaller than the fill tube, and it lets the air out as u fill tank. If u have this trouble, the vent hose is probably kinked, or bent which would slow the speed of filling the tank. Follow the tube and check, let me know what u find.
