You must push the caliber back fully in order to be able to install new pads. Once you do this the pads will go right on.

I am changing the front brakes pads and on a 2004 3500 series gmc

Not really, some basic tools, metric sockets and wrenches, screw drivers and a 6" C clamp to compress the caliper piston.
The most important thing to remember is to make certain the caliper pins are clean and greased when you reassemble. If you are replacing components such as rotors or calipers, make sure you replace the parts in pairs. Make sure no grease or contaminants are on the rotors or brake pads.
Good luck.
You can go to to get detailed instructions for replacing your pads.

Rear calipers on 2002 savana 2500 seem to be sticking

If you are Sure that the PARK BRAKE CABLES are NOT FROZEN.
The Best thing to do is REPLACE the CALIPERS, given the Fack that NOTHING can be done to them to UNSTICK them.

Caliper won't release on right front brake--everything is new, replaced because of that problem but no fix

Check the left rear brake for sticking on also, if it is then you have a master cylinder problem. replace brake master cylinder but check the adjustment of the brake light switch first. the switch is above the brake pedal, make sure it is not holding the pedal partially on.

Brakes binding on front left wheel

If you open the bleeder screw on the caliper up, and the wheel frees up, you have a restricted brake hose. If not, you still have a caliper issue.

1994 GMC Sonoma - brakes went out - we have replaced the pads, lines and they are still not engaging to stop the vehicle - could this be the calipers or the master cylinder?

Did the peddel go to the floor when the breaks went out before you replaced pads and lines? If it did than its the master cyl. If you replace the master cyl. yourself just remember you have to bench bleed it before you install it. The new master cyl. will come with instructions on how to do that. The calipers will not do what you discribed unless they have a major leak. Also after you install the new master cyl. chanses are all the breaks will have to be blead, starting with right rear, left rear, right front, left front. In that order.
