Question about Buick Century

I bought a replacement sun visor (drivers side) to replace a broken one in a 1998 Buick Century. But I can't seem to figure out how to pop out the old one so I can replace it with the new one. The sun visor includes the post arm that snaps into the ceiling just above the top of the windshield. Mike

I have a 98 Buick Century (Custom). I am trying to replace a broken sun visor (driver's side) with a new one I bought at the local Buick dealer parts department. Previous advice given to me on this web site mentioned taking out screws to take off the mounting hardware. But there are no visible screws. The mount cover is plastic that blends with the cars interior colors. I tried prying off the plastic cover with a screw driver to see if there were any screws underneath that I could remove. But the plastic cover would not budge. I didn't want to force it, thinking I might damage it. The new sun visor with attached arm and post appears to be designed to snap or pop into place. I just can't figure out how to get the old sun visor mount out of the ceiling mount. Can you help?

The round base that is up against the ceiling needs to turn counter clockwise about a third of a rotation then it will drop out. It will probably be stuck fairly tight and you you may end up crushing it and needing to replace it too. Let me know how this turns out for you.

In most instances this is quite the hatchet repair job, usually there are two or three screws holding in the actual "arm" that holds the visor. Once you take those screws out you will need to unscrew the actual sun visors from the roof, you need to loosen the screw to remove the hardware from the visor. Both the left and right visors are made exactly the same way, so there's one screw that shows and one that doesn't after they are re-mounted to the roof. Take a utility knife and cut the thread holding the fabric to the visor frame and they will open up.

Basically there are some smaller screws holding the mount in place, then one large screw down the middle that holds it into the ceiling.

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about here is a page with a whole bunch of pictures of the different types of mounts

http://www.autosunvisors.com/mounts.htm

From there you can better see how it is mounted.

Thanks, hope this helps!

The driver's sun visor won't stay up, it falls down

Already reported as being a repetitive problem with Murano vehicule owner eventhough they have it alreay replaced.
You can fight as long as you want with your dealer that this is a security issue no recall has been expressed about that so far.

I can say that some people switched the passenger side one with the driver side with little of convenience. I can't say more personnally.
The permanent fix being approx $250 unless you get it one in a scrap yard not knowing how long will be its life time! Up to you to make the decision.
Hope it will help
Dan

I have a 2003 Murano that just started having this problem a few weeks ago. As a quick fix, my husband and I switched the driver's side sun visor with the passenger's side sun visor (yes, everything is backwards now, but it's a minor inconvenience). It was very simple to do, and only took about 5 minutes. The cover pops right off to reveal two screws that hold the unit in place. Anyone could do it.
Meanwhile, we are searching local junkyards to try to find a replacement to avoid having to pay $250 (+) for a replacement visor. user_offline.gif

Sun visor on 2008 Camry broke - on both sides

To be honest, Save your 90.00 and pop it in your self. Sun visors are very easy to change and will take you all of 5 minutes. Most visors are held in place by 2-3 little screws that you will see at the base of the visor and looks like they are screwed into your roof. just take the screws out and the visor will pop right out for you. then just do the opposite to install it. It really is that easy.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

most likely a defect. call the dealer and see if toyota has issued a recall on the visor and you might have it replaced for free. other than that, there's always the junkyard.
