Question about 1996 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Dome Light, Temp. Gauge and Compress does not work.

I have checked the fuses and they all seem to be working fine. Recently, I opened my back window and the ''door open'' indicator will not go out. Does this have anything to do with why the light and gauges are not working.

Check the micro switch which should be in the door frame or jam area. I think that is your prob.

Found this wiring diagram for lift gate, if that is what we're talking about? Not only check the fuses, check fuse circuit for voltage. Use a testlite.

I have a 2006 dodge stratus and all my power Windows are not working. They first started acting up by stopping in the middle of rolling up or not rolling up at all. You could open and shut the driver door...

you might need to check for a broken wire in the loom/harness were the door opens and goes from the body of the car to the door. this is a common place for broken wires. the other window motors are feed by the drivers door switch so if it looses power the other windows will not work. and by you saying you could open the drivers door and they started working indicates this maybe were your problem is.

The electric windows do not seem to have power to the doors. None of the fuses are blown and with the hot weather we need to open a couple of them, HELP

nicolejr, One of the main problems with power windows are the wires that feed the door switches, especially the drivers door. This being because this is the door that is opened and closed the most which bends the wires back and forth until they start to break. There is a wire bundle that enters the vehicle from the door. You will see it with the door open. You need to cut open the rubber boot that protects these wires. Check for any broken ones and repair them and this should solve your problem. Seeing that you have already checked the fuses and they are fine check the relay for the windows as well. I believe that Ford uses one for this circuit. You will usually find it in the power distribution box under the hood. I don't think this is a switch problem as I cannot see all of the switches going bad at the same time. Good luck with this.

1999 Corolla..........365,000 KM!!!!!!!!!!! Today all 4 power windows AND Power door lock stopped working. Of course its around freezing and 2 of the windows are slightly open!!! Nothing else seems to...

First I would check the fuses and relay. Second I would remove the interior door panel and check the connector pins on the motor to the window. Should that not work, you can disconnect the motor and force crank the window up. Although it sounds like a fuse/relay issue as they seem to be the only items not working. Let me know.

I have a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan that was purchased in March of 2008. When I first bought it, everything worked great! Now I am having several issues with it. The passanger side window will not roll down...

As Juncro mentioned, good stuff!

If it is one door not working..... try this:

1. Sit in vehicle
2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is openned
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button held
5. SLAM door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.
7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, usually the first try works!

NOW, for the naysayers that says you must replace power window motors etc, at $$$ cost because the above fix does not work, or is not long lasting fix, or less than a "professional fix".... Well then, when the window fails to operate again, apply same fix again at that time.

I have fixed my van this way numerous times (usually once a year), and to all I recommend this fix too, likewise do the same
