Call a mechanic or go see your local dealer . resistors are normally on the firewall close to the blower motor

Heater is controlled by a fan switch located in your dash panel, a resistor and a blower motor. If the fan is not working the first place to check is the resistor which is located behind the dash panel in the plenum. The way to check this is remove the plug and insert a jumoer wire, if the fan runs the resistor is bad.

Ac/heater fan doesn't work


According to my wiring diagram, the blue and white wire from the blower motor gets power from the key switch. The fan switch and resistor grounds the motor.
No blower fuse is listed.

if the lower fan speeds dont work but the fastest speed does the heater fan resistor block needs replacing. If the highest fan speed doesnt work leave it on there and check for power at heater blower fan, if power is on one wire and the other is an earth the blower motor fan needs replacing. Use a normal globe test light to check this. If no power on any wires to fan go back and check all fuses in car and under bonnet with same test light. If fuses are ok possible open circuit wire to fan.

The heater and fan doesnt turn on. I checked the relay and fuse and it seems to be good. Is there anything else I need to do?


Hi I've seen this problem many times. since you've checked the fuse I'm going to assume that your wireing is in good condition. I would say that you have a bad blower motor resistor. The resistor is what controls your fan speed. If the resistor is bad your fan will not start. The other thing you can ckeck is to see if your fan is still in good working condition. Just apply battery voltage to the pins on the blower motor where the connector is. If the fan starts then the fan is good and the fault is in the resistor.

Look in the fuse/relay box under the hood,on drivers side,if the fuse is not blown,check for a bad relay near the blower motor,or in th relay box.If all this checks out,it can be the control head,it is a system with sensors all over the place,and any of them can cause the problem.But it does sound like the control head.

Ok, first off, check the fuses under the dash. If they're all good, does the blower work only on high speed? If yes, then you have a bad blower motor resistor, which is located under the hood, near the blower motor itself. If the motor doesnt work at all at any fan speed, make sure the wiring harness that plugs into the motor under the hood is clean and tightly installed. If it still doesnt operate, sometimes tapping on the blower motor housing will kick it on, but if that doesnt work, you may have to replace the blower motor. They are available aftermarket, and arent usually too expensive.

Heater wont work a fuse maybe? some how I doubt it. the rear window heater works. fan dead perhaps? no fan at all. not sure about heat.


Hi: Sounds like a possible heater resistor problem. First check to see if heater fan working, unplug heater under hood and put 12 volts to it from the battery with a wire (single black wire running to back of fan). If works then problem probably the resistor which is located on the fan housing under the hood to the right of the fan. The resistor has wires to it running from the heater fan, 2 - 7mm screws holding resistor in place, check resistor to see if any of the 3 elements are melted off, if so replace. Note: Rear window defrost has nothing to do with heater fan. Hope this helps...

2000 OLDSMOBILE ALERO HEATER DOESNT WORK


The new vehicles with a 5 speed fan run all the speeds through the resistor and these are a very common failure. You should be able to buy one at any parts store.

Heater/blower died


When you find the fuse if it has blown also check the resistor to control the fan speed. I cant remember if the 1 series has a load resistor multi tap but it may have failed if you use 1 or 2 speed on the fan a lot, max will bypass the load resistor where as 1 will use maximum load and the thermal fuse might have blown. But replace it as caution. In the earlier models it had a block which was nicknamed the hedgehog, a load resistor buried under passenger foot-well up toward the centre, loads of spiky aluminum pegs which cold air blew over to cool it, always packing up in the earlier models £25 from scrap dealer cheap fix compared to the £££££££ BMW dealers rip off. Heater or air con would either not work or blow erratically. Hope this helps
