The coolant is hot and the fans stay running to cool it off
they should stop when the key is removed
if not probably a relay problem

Not sure where the fan resistor is but it might be burnt shut causing the fan to stay on. its a little circuit board usually under hood or by heater box.

Volvo s60 fan stays on

Fan should run for a while after turning engine off. However, the most likely cause is the cooling fan module which is attached to the cooling fan assembly.

Cooling fan continues running after car is not running

Its supposed to,, unless it just stays running,, on newer cars the temp fan will run even with the car off, and can start while the car is parked too, if it runs on and on and sucks the life out of your battery , then a stuck fan switch (usually near the radiator) can cause this problem if the fan stays running a long time

What would cause the fan to stay on after the engine is turned off?

the fan is probably ran from an engine coolant temp sensor, which would cause that.but if it stays on for a long period of time{like 30 min} after the engine is off, the sensor could be bad

Air condition stays on when car is off draining battery

If you mean the interior fan stays on then there's probably a relay for the fan or a fan module that is bad or stuck at the contacts, causing a short to ground that shouldn't exist after turning the ignition off.

Cooling fan won't shut off and it's draining the battery.

Replace the cooling fan relay, when the relay over heats due to the high current flow. It will melt and cause the relay to stay in the on position, causing your cooling fan to stay running. Simple fix and replace the relay and you can pick one up in most Auto Parts store like Napa and Auto Zone.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Cooling fan stays on after turned off.

Well there is a coolant temp sensor that controls when the fans come on and off, if this sensor goes out or gives false readings this will cause the fans to come on prematurely, not come on at all, or stay on as your problem is. Also there is a relay in the main fuse block that may also stick and cause them to stay engaged. hope this helps, if you need more help give me a shout and will be glad to help you out......

Clutch fan?

no the fan that is used on most vechiles is called a viscus fan , it operates from the heat from your radiator, when you first take off the fan stays engauged because the liquid inside is cold and thick , causing a lock up in the fan, this is normal. once it gets heat from the radiator it thins and allows the fan to spin freely. then once enough heat is sensed by the coil windings on the front of the fan a valve inside is opened and the thinned oil is diverted and causes the fan to lock up again to help remove heat from radiator .
