2007 Aveo leaking coolant from around the entire engine where the top is bolted down. Iost a lot fluid but the temp gauge doesn't ever go above half way so I'm not sure if there's an issue there also

check your hose's for small pin leak's. also check your thermostat housing and gasket. might be leaking from housing. might need a tune up if running rough. does your check engine light come on when car is running.

How to replace thermostat?

I have replaced a lot of thermostats but not in a aveo. Just find the top radiator hose follow to engine where it is connected to the motor is where you will find the thermostat housing. It is in most cases held by two bolts. When you buy the new thermostat see if it has a replaceable gasket and buy it as well.

Hello
make sure that they check all of rubber materials that could be burning which is a number of things, The ac belt could be slipping and getting hot, other hoses could be burning on the exhaust, sound insulation or under coating on the bottom of the car. they need to do just a good thourough inspection, even raise the car up on the lift to make sure nothing is bent, broke, rubbing or missing. The loose hose clamp is not going to smell like burnt rubber, maybe antifreeze but not rubber simply tell them you would like these things checked out they should do that for you
Good luck

Thermostat housing came apart and lost all of my cooling. Do I have to replae the whole assembly?

It may be cheaper to replace whole assembly however you can just replace the damaged/lost parts of assembly so long as parts your keeping are in good condition

You need talking with the parts guy at the GM dealer You need the "new" style thermostat housing to be able to change just the thermostat. So I ordered a new thermostat housing assembly. Here is what I got, a new aluminum two piece housing and thermostat. Hopefully tomorrow I can get this car back on the road and out of my shop.

Can you change the thermostat only or is the housing and thermostat togather and replaced togather?

Anyway, you will need the spare part. Look for thermostat only, if it is sold w/o housing, it can be replaced separately. Also, look whether your housing allows disassembling.

The thermostat housing separated, or blew apart would be a better way of putting it. Im sure it needs a new housing but I cant figure out how to put a new thermostat into the new housing. This is a 2005...

This is a notorious Aveo problem, These are poorly made. You need a new thermostat housing it includes the thermost on the 04-05' Aveo. It is all one sealed part from the factory. The original part is made of plastic. Chevy has an aluminum one now that won't break but it's MSRP price from the dealer is $91.78 got one and put it on my mothers car works fine now. So you can't just put a new thermostat in it you need the whole housing which already has the thermo. in it.
