SOURCE: which way do you turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to loosen it?

It turns left (counterclockwise) to remove. An impact wrench is best if you can get one on it.

If you don't use an impact wrench, you may need to somehow keep the crank from turning when you loosen the bolt.

One way is to pull the belt tighter to put more tension on the crank pulley.

There are other creative ways I've used. If you have any trouble let me know.

All I did was wiggle the bolt out . You have to loosen the power steering pulley and bracket and remove the fan shroud on the left side.

Why my engine coolant temperature gauge stay to stucked to zero?

Could be a bad sensor, broken wire or corroded connection. Start with the easy/cheap stuff by doing an inspection of the wiring and connections. Then check the sensor. You could even try pulling the sensor and placing it in really hot water. Dont run the engine but turn the key so the gauges work. Sometimes they don't read if there is an air bubble stuck there.

The instuments in the dash started going crazy, the tach gauge is stuck, what is the problem?

Stay out of the Burmuda triangle. :) (It's getting late 5:AM) check for a bad ground on the instrument cluster in the dash. Good luck. Jeff M.

The gauges have a memory. They will stay where the last read was when you turn the key off and don't move until you turn the key back on. If something happened between the time you turned the key off and back on then they could be stuck in that last position.
Sounds like you may have a ground issue. The cluster uses a common ground. Maybe start by checking the ground wire under the dash that uses one of its mounting bolts in the corner.

Fuel gauge is stuck on the back side of top pin.

you can remove the cluster from the car pull the plastic cover off fill your car up so you will know where to put the full level at remover the pin simply by pulling on it it may seem like if wont come off but that is because it is supposed to be tight put it back in at empty and replace the cluster if the needle goes to full then it is right if not you put the pin in wrong retry till it reads full if the neddle just doesnt move then replace fuel pump

Well, theres a sending unit/float in the tank that sends a signal thru wires to your instrument cluster's fuel gauge. You should have an auto electric repairperson determine where your problem lies. It's not often the needle's just 'stuck' to where you could dislodge it. More often, it's pegged overfull or underempty-signaling a shorted component upstream of the gauge.

Similar problem and found the solution:
In the back of the gauge, where the 2 coils are located, there are very tiny copper wires which connect all the resistors/diodes. they each travel from within the coil and are soldered to 3 out of the 4 mounting pins. if any of these wires are shorting out or disconnected, the gauge will malfunction.

- take the gauge and flip upside down
- temp gauge has 1 resistor (blue) and 1 diode (copper)
- fuel gauge has 2 resistors, no diodes
- 1 wire should be attached to bottom mounting pin (letter E for EMPTY)
- 1 wire should be attached to pin holding both resistors (half tank)
- 1 wire should be attached to the stand-alone ground pin (no mounting bracket)

Hope that helps!

The gauges all come as one unit. And yes you have to remove a rather large part of the dash trim to get at the cluster(gauges). It can be tricky to remove the trim without breaking it. The trim that has to be removed is one piece from one side of the car to the other. there are a few bolts in each end the two above the cluster. The rest is held in with tension retainers.

Check engine light does not turn on at all

The bulb is probably loose and/or burnt out. If you are mechanically inclined you can tackle this job... This procedure is the one i use, most often it's the blue high beam indicator bulb that goes so if you want to change it while your in there.....(hint hint)
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait a good 2 minutes to allow for air bag deactivation...NOTE: USE CAUTION ...Lower the tilt wheel to lowest position.
Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument panel.
Remove the two screws that secure the upper mounting tabs of the instrument cluster to the underside of the instrument cluster hood formation of the instrument panel top pad.
Remove the two screws that secure the lower mounting tabs of the instrument cluster to the instrument panel structural duct.
Pull the upper mounting tabs of the instrument cluster downward, then pull the instrument cluster rearward far enough to access the instrument panel wire harness connector for the instrument cluster. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector for the instrument cluster from the connector receptacle on the back of the instrument cluster housing.
Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel. Now do you remember which bulb it was? You can now see where the check engine light bulb is mounted. Twist and remove, install in reverse order. In some cases they are just loose or not making good ground, but after going through this just to access that lil bugger, i'd replace it.
I hope i have helped you and if you feel i have please acknowledge.
Be well and keep the cherokees alive....

Gauges for 99 Pontiac Grand Am Not working right.

This is a ground problem. There are cluster grounds on the bolts that bolt the engine and trans together. You will have two of them one in the front under the front engine mounting bracket and one towards the back of the car almost right under the EGR. This is a common problem and requires a quite a bit of time to get to the two bolts to clean the connections on the grounding clusters. I ran into this problem after replacing my engine and it took me several hours before I finally found this problem. Good luck!
