Batteries, when cold, are not able to provide anything near their rated power output. Engines, when cold, require much more torque to turn over than when warm. Starters, when cold, require much more current to operate. Older batteries have less reserve starting power. Battery chargers will restore voltage levels, over time, but are not the same as a battery or "jump start". Add it up. Cold motor hard to turn over. Cold starter demanding more power to run itself, plus even more to turn cold motor. Battery at its weakest due to cold. Chances are the battery needs replacement.

if the pump itself is at fault replacement is required. however it is more common for there to be a short in the system leading to no power to the pump...check for power and ground before condemning the air pump

How do I change a starter


Remove the battery's negative terminal

Take note of wiring connections on starter, then disconnect it's wiring.
Take out the two location bolts, and then remove the starter.
Installation is the reverse of those instructions.

Note: Before removing the battery negative lead, turn off any alarm systems and be sure you know any security codes for the stereo if it requires any as you will reset it and will need the codes to boot it up again. If you are not sure if it requires any code, then you will need to provide a separate battery power to the stereo by splicing into it's power and earth leads before disconnecting the main battery.

1996 jag xjs , the battery is dead , I need to jump start it but the trunk won't open ,battery in the trunk , can it be jumped from under the hood ? and why won't the trunk open even with a key ?


The trunk latch is operated by a solenoid which it requires power to operate. since the batery is flat then it won't work. I'm not sure where the positive terminal is under the hood but you can connect the positive lead to the alternator wire terminal, and the negative lead can be connected any where on the engine.

How do I top up the power steering fluid on my MB E300


There will be two hoses going from the bottom of your steering column in your engine compartment that lead to your power steering pump. The pump is driven by the pulley system on the front of your engine. There is a filler cap on this pump with graduation marks that indicate the fluid level required and markings on the cap tell you the fluid required. Hope this helps. Let me know.

It sounds like your fan motor is either bad or not connected to the power source due to a bad switch, or bad or disconncted wire(s.) This will require you to remove certain components of the dashboard. The center part of your dash will "pop out" if you pry under the edges very carefully. After it comes off, you will be able to access the fan motor switch.You can put a test light on the (+) positive lead to the switch to find out if power is getting to it. Also you can bring a lead wire to the fan MOTOR to see if it runs when powered. IF there is power to the motor and it still doersn't run, replace it. If it runs, replace the switch in the dash.

2003 Jetta TDI alternator light came on in dash


Your voltage regulator supplies the path for the control lead of the alternator and varies the amount of current available to provide the magnetic field of the armature with the required strength. Measuring from this lead to ground won't show much voltage.
Apparently the regulator is not integrated into the alternator and is probably failed. If you can chase the control lead backward, you will find the regulator and these are mostly mounted on the fender well or firewall.
