Spinning IS Cranking, they are the same thing. You mean cranking and not starting or firing. Old cars used to have a cranked handle that you inserted into the front of the car to turn the engine manually and start it. The cranked handle cranked the engine. History lesson as well :>)

If the battery is low, there may not be enough power to turn the engine and provide enough power to the ignition system. This is more of a problem in cold weather as the oil is more viscous and requires more amps to turn it over. Top it up with a battery charger.

2001 pt won't crank or start new battery 2 weeks ago

You have to know if the battery is charged up first. Simple test: have someone with a voltmeter check the battery. A new battery fully charged should read at least 12.6 volts. A battery with a low charge may not make a starter motor spin the engine over.
If the battery is good, then you go by process of elimination through the start circuit-not that many things in most starting circuits.

Why does the motor draggs when trying to start

I'm assuming you are referring to slow cranking of the engine when starting. Three issues can cause this that are simple. The first and least likely is very high compression. The second is your starter motor is failing, the third and most likely is your battery is either beginning to fail, or your charging system is not fully charging the battery. Clean your battery posts, and start your engine with a voltmeter, check the voltage at the battery. It should read 13.5 or above. If not your issue is the alternator. If so, then shut down the engine and check the battery voltage, it should be around 12.5 or above. If not your battery is shot. If so, take your vehicle to a shop and ask them to check the cranking amperage of the battery.
If the battery and charging system are good then it is probably the starter.
Notice that I mentioned to clean the battery posts. This is very important. Many times bad connections thete can cause the entire issue.

My toyota camry 220sei does not start. battery fully charged, enough fuel. the engine swings but it does on and running. sometines I can smell petrol, however I can't see any petrol around the engine.

cranks but will not start, clear as day, (few are) and floods.
no year, stated. not that makes this so very hard,
220sei? what is that? are you trying to say XV20?
no engine stated, nor country.
so i spin the wheel if fortune and land, 1996, XV20
and USA< and 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6 engine.

  1. fuses good, ? "tested"
  2. keyon CEL lamp in cluster glows, if not PCM has no power. or lamp bad, fix that.
  3. connect scan tool crank for 5seconds, oh my gosh the PCM knows what's bad.? 1987 to now at least, all cars. so it says cam, crank sensors. or spark is bad.? DTC errors??????
  4. did you check for spark on all 6 cylinders, (do that tuneup now?, long forgot for 10 years?)
  5. eg: i got spark but timing is off, cam drive slipped, is why. omg , I fail edto do my timing belt service, if car has VVT boom you bent all the valves, many for sure. or just one bank. non VVT this does not happen,,3LV6
  6. ok , i checked compression, all are over 150, I now have spark and it still floods. so i Pull the fuel pump relay. and clear the flood and try test fuel it runs great for 3 second, cool !
  7. i then diagnose flooding, causes. (leaking injectors or too high fuel pressure.) and more. lots ,more but ILL stop, as fueling tests are long and tedious. (can show all)

Car wont start after replaceing batterty

The most common cause of a non-starting car is the battery. It is either weak, (low voltage) dead, (zero voltage) or has bad connections. (corroded or loose) I will assume you have a fully charged battery with good connections. (both to battery and starter relay) Just becaue its new, don't mean its good or fully charged.

If you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the starter relay and apply +12v from the battery to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. (not to be confused with your key switch). If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken. Picture of starter switch prong on the relay is pictured. NOTE: sparks are to be expected, so don't be too scared.

no model Honda stated, nor year, 1973?
my guess is
car fails to crank, am i right,?
ask how to trouble shoot NO CRANK (easy)
if engine CRANKS, ask who to trouble shoot that (longest book on earth)
ever clean the battery lugs this decade?
no crank, does car have A/T o r M/T tranny, not stated.
did jumper starts or known good battery (fully charged) crank motor fast (y/n)
yes, bad battery
no, bad cranking system. (its a system not 1 part)

cranking dead.
i hot wire the starter, soleniod.
motor cranks but dont start (cuz keys are in my pocket for safety)
no crank is bad starter or bad battery cables
cranks fast. starter and crank shaft on engine spins normal
cause,bad key line.

post results. we can work a bad key line, after post tranny type.
the above cuts the problem in1/2.
1: bad cranking system.
2: bad key line.

if battery is just discharged, its a bad battery or bad charging system.
owning a charger solve this as is using a voltmeter on battery after a good start.

How do get the engine to crank or turn

check that you have put the small wire on the correct terminal of the starter solenoid. The solenoid will require power from the ignition switch to close the contacts the make the starter spin

Remote door locks don't work and engine won't turn over or start. Jumper cables don't help.

The first thing is to make sure the battery is fully charged, sometimes jumper cables wont work if battery is to far gone, also check the connections, the last and most common is theres a problem with the inside fuse panel wiring, the main power wiring feeding fusebox melts, this cause the loss of power, the dash lights light up when turning the key but the car will not do anything when key is in the crank spot the engine will not spin to start, in this case wiring and fusebox need replacing, diagnose first before replacing parts,

Car wont start wont even crank

Make sure your battery is fully charged. If the battery is fully charged make sure your starter is engaging, or trying to start the van. If it just clicks or sounds like it is spinning really fast have your starter checked. You can remove it and most auto parts stores will check it for free or mechanic shops might charge a small fee to do it. If the starter is trying to turn over the van and it won't crank you may have bigger problems. If the starter won't turn over the engine you can check it yourself by trying to turn over ther engine by hand. You will need to remove the spark plugs and turn it by putting a socket and ratchet on the harmonic balancer retaining nut and turning that. If the engine won't turn or is very difficult to turn with the spark plugs removed then you could have internal damage. You'll have to decide at that point wether it's something you want to do or get professional help. Gl
