Computer error code P0420 Catalyst Efficiency below normal ()Bank 1) Can it be flush out, how can you tell if the converter needs replacing.

No, you cannot flush one. No maintenance is possible. When you get that code, you may have a cat that needs replacing, or your oxygen sensor after the cat may not be reading well. Erase the code and see if or how long it takes to come back. If it reappears shortly, like 2 weeks, or 50-100 miles, you probably have a cat needing replacement. But it might help to monitor the sensor after the cat (bank 1, sensor 2) to see what it is reading. Another way to test your cat is to use a hand-held infrared thermometer. Look at the temps on the exhaust both before and just after the cat. A working cat will have hotter exhaust at its tail, than the temp before the cat. Because a working cat will be burning off hydrocarbons in the exhaust. The temp after the cat should be about 100 degrees hotter than the exhaust before the cat.

What has to be fixed on a 2009 volvo v50 when error code P420 appears?

P0420 is catalyst efficiency below threshold. It means your catalytic converter is unable to clean up your exhaust anymore. Might be that your car is not running properly and creating excess emissions, or it might just be a bad cat. To do this properly, you need a scan tool that will give you live data. Your must check fuel trim, must be no misfires You will need to make sure you are not burning oil, consuming coolant, or having any other driveability issues. At that point and only at that point if the code still persists you should replace the catalytic converter. If you replace the catalytic converter and the engine is running poorly, the new converter will fail right away.

Error code 2005 vw beetle -P2096

code p 2096 refers to post cat converter fuel trim(FT) bank 1 ---too lean===causes --cat converter---exhaust leak
it also refers to heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 1 bank 1--range/ performance --circuit high====causes --wiring short to positive ---HO2S
replace the HO2S using the correct socket so the wires do not get damaged
for the first one check for an exhaust leak in the flex section of the exhaust pipe under the steel mesh

My engine light was on, so i got a diagnostics done and it said the bank1 sensor 2 needed to be replaced. i Replaced the sensor but the engine light keeps coming back on after the part was replaced and...

no year. stated, sigh, nor country, sigh 2.
no DTC posted.!
post the DTC code, do not interpret it , state it. P0xxx?
flat out.
are there other codes? other stored or pending DTC codes?
there are many oxy codes, not stating the code is bad news.
each has a different reason, guessing is a fail.

btw , sensor 2 does not run the cars fuel mix. that be sensor 1.
btw, sensor 2, is rear of cat sensors.
this sensors purpose IS TO , warn of a dead CAT.

if the CAT is getting NAILED by rich fuel , the cat can be good
and the code P042x is one, that can be cause by other fueling issues. RICH. if rich (vastly) the cat can overheat. and fail that test. you need to post all facts, in my questions. first.

Po430 error code what is it

Code 430 is for a problem with the catalytic converter on bank two.
It means the computer can not tell if the cat is working or not based on the readings from the O2 sensors.
The sensors and the cat would need to be tested.

Code p0420

Normally, the P-0420 indicates a sensor issue; a cat replacement would be needed if you had the P-0420 coupled WITH a
P-0430 code.

What I would do, if I were you, would take the car to a shop that can perform an "induction cleaning", and have that service done. Then, replace the spark plugs, if the car is around 90,000 miles. You may alsop need a front air-fuel sensor (the one on the manifold) replacement.

I would not change the cat until I did the above services. It does not sound like a bad cat just yet.
