What make model and year vehicle ? You would need a wiring diagram for that circuit , know where the control module is so you can test the electrical circuit and the contorl module (is the control module activating the circuit )

Code P0717 on a 2006 Buick Lacrosse. Have replaced Belt and input speed sensor reset and light comes back on after driving a few days. Also RPM jumps around like from 1500rpms to 2000 rpm any idea.

Circuit Description
The automatic transmission input speed sensor (ISS) is a permanent magnet with a coil of wire wound around it. The ISS mounts in the case cover facing the reluctor wheel of the input shaft. As the reluctor wheel is driven by the turbine shaft, an AC signal is induced in the input speed sensor. Higher vehicle speeds induce a higher frequency and voltage at the sensor.
There is a fixed air gap between the sensor and the teeth on the sensor reluctor wheel. The ISS input is used by the powertrain control module (PCM) in order to control line pressure, TCC apply and release and transmission shift patterns. This sensor is also used to calculate the gear ratios and TCC slippage.
If the PCM detects a low input speed while the vehicle and engine speeds are high, then DTC P0717 sets. DTC P0717 is a type B DTC.

Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that know's how to test correctly

If you don't know anything about automotive electronic's , sensor electrical circuit's ,your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.
Finding a wiring diagram ,reading how this sensor work's an testing the electrical circuit using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter , going by a factory service repair manual .

Circuit/System Description
The input speed sensor (ISS) is a hall-effect type sensor. The sensor faces the 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch housing machined teeth surface. The sensor receives 8.3-9.3 volts on the input/output speed sensor (ISS/OSS) supply voltage circuit from the transmission control module (TCM). As the 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch housing rotates, the sensor produces a signal frequency based on the machined surface of the 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch housing. This signal is transmitted through the ISS signal circuit to the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. The control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly uses the ISS signal to determine line pressure, transmission shift patterns, torque converter clutch (TCC) slip speed and gear ratio.

Circuit/System Verification
Engine idling, observe the scan tool Transmission ISS parameter while varying the engine speed. The Transmission ISS parameter should change with the engine speed and not drop out.
Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop.

Now i dont know a lot about automatics especially modern ones with all this fancy electronics thats used nowdays but i think its a fault with the temperature sensor for the gearbox.But where its located and what it looks like i have no idea it could even be mounted inside the gearbox .Sorry not a very good answer from a mechanic but?? very few of our europeon cars come with auto transmission .Evan when i do know whats wrong i cannot buy the parts for the gearbox as only re-con boxes supplied by the dealer so best advice is to try a specialist in auto box repairs only .PS some of my best students when i used to teach mechanics many moons ago were the girls so no excuses like iam only a girl please

The computer wants to know if the transmission is working properly. So it reads the speed of the input shaft and compares it to the speed of the output shaft. It knows which gear you're in because it commanded the transmission to shift into that gear. So, with the input speed, the gear selection, and the output speed, the computer can calculate how efficiently the transmission is working. If the speed is off, it knows that something is slipping inside the transmission. It can then try to boost the fluid pressure to compensate. If that doesn't work, it sets a different trouble code.

The P0717 code means that the computer isn't getting any signal from the sensor. Either the sensor is dead or there's a circuit issue (bad wiring, etc).

input/turbine speed sensor circuit no signal check the sensor for problems than check the wiring to and around the turbo for damage or connection problem -if good than check the wiring circuit itself for same problem -the computer is not getting a signal from the turbo

I am getting a p0717 code, when i am driving and have to stop the car if i try to take off on drive it wont move, i have to shift it to a lower gear for it to move.

I got a P O 717 code what is it ???


P0717: Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal.
This code shows because the computer isn't getting any signal from the sensor. Either the sensor is dead or there's a circuit issue (bad wiring, etc).

The Input/Turbine Speed Sensor is the sensor the computer uses to to monitor the the efficiency of the transmission. The computer reads the speed from the input shaft and compares it to the speed of the output shaft. If the speed is off it attempts to correct it by boosting the fluid pressure to compensate. When that fails it trips the P0717 error code. In most cases either the sensor is dead or there's a problem in the wiring harness.

There are issue of intermittent connection trouble with this circuit. That would cause the on off problem.
