Ok its a 2008, MK49 jeep, Patriot
no engine stated.
gas or diesel, or turbo diesel.
if its the VW diesel
it is really 3 cars in one.
Jeep, Mitsubishi and VW.
not a fun job to fix or diagnose, cars like that.
mixed parts...
but gas dirt cheap here, at 50 cents a liter.
so we run nice big V6 here. common on all jeeps.
3.7L petrol.
getting diesel smog clean is problematic. (NOX issues huge)
see the VW law suits. yah. more pain.

so what engines is really really there
down under in Sidney.

Testimonial: "Thanks for answer. my car is the Jeep patriot 2.L Jeep 2008 manual and on cruise control At that time I was using a trailer to pick up a bike. Driving up a hill, the car released black smoke on gear 5 and I changed it to gear 2. My car only ran 20km/h afterwards up the hill. Do you have any recommendations for a mechanic in the Sydney Fairfield area?"

not really ,this a USA forum.
we dont have the car here. State Side.
    N.America's
    redux1.
    the post is really simple.
my 2.0L gas or 2.0L VW diesel lost engine power and has black smoke.
the reason why is easy, it's busted.
    Malfunctioning. Kaput.
    it needs service, for sure.
like falling off a log simple ...
machines break, all do. sooner or later.
it can even be something simple,

    1 get it serviced
2 scan it and report your DTC error codes.
3 tell the world what engines there, we have not a clue. and 2Liters not effective at all.
    is IT petrol or diesel.
    ??????????????????????????????

While driving along mostly up hills and or pulling my 2002 dodge ram 1500 5 speed tends to loose power. What could be the cause of that?

All vehicles will lose a certain amount of power when going up hill or towing depending on how steep the hill or how heavy the load. Do you shift down when needed.

When I engage the cruise control is holds speed but rmp surges periodically around 2-300 rpm.

It could be your transmission trying to find the right gear it will jump around on diffrent road surfaces and going up hills/down hills. It is usaully noticable on cruise because it is at a constant speed and your thinking why would it need to shift. Sometimes it doesnt even really shift the gear its so inbetween it just jumps back really fast.

What causes a 1998 grand caravan 3.3 liter to lose speed climbing a hill with the cruise set but it will hold the vehicle back going down a hill

you have higher torque need when pulling the vehicle up hill but less going down because it does not require as much power to hold your van back. Hope this helps

Engine raced with sudden loss of power climbing hill

Sounds like the transmission went south on you..(surge and power loss was the trans not sending power to the wheels, allowing the engine to freewheel as the cruise applied more power to try and maintain speed).Depending upon how high the rpm's went when it let go, it may have damaged the engine, but that remains to be determined...Your mechanic will likely concentrate on that before putting a transmission on a wounded engine. The one grain of hope in what you said is that it remained running while you had the a/c on waiting for a tow. Good Luck!!

95 Landcruiser Turbo warning light comes on under heavy load

If you are "lugging" the engine, you will get increased exhaust temperature (EGT), this will trigger your "turbo" light(not a good thing), ideally you should have an aftermarket "pyrometer" fitted to your car, this will show you the optimum revs etc you should be using in any given circumstance.Or revise your driving technique, ie change down gears earlier.
The turbo should be idled down after long trips or heavy towing, this allows the oil temps to stabilise and turbine speeds to stabilise, thus idle for 2-5 minutes.

2009 Toyota Camry problems

All Toyota auto trans cars downshift when descending a hill when you tap the brake. This is called "Downhill Shift Logic"; what this is for is to eliminate the double shift when you come to the bottom of a hill and then accelerate. Normal condition. Usually happens above 38 MPH.
Also: The cruise will accelerate when going uphill. Normal condition.Plus: The cruise will not disengage back to the set MPH after you top the hill. Toyota recommends to disengage the cruise when encountering steep terrain.
