Question about Nissan Cars & Trucks

91 Nissan truck 5spd transmission , only gear that works is reverse and 5th gear, doesn't have a reverse Lockout or a reverse sleeve. Trying to rock back and forward of truck no luck, any suggestion?

If the gear lever is into the top of the box, remove the turret and pivot ball and see why the shifter rails are not lining up
if it is a column shifter , check all linkages for adjustment or fallen off

Shouldnt be a big deal.

Your shift linkage is probably bent.

You will need to go to a trans shop and get it fixed.

I highly recommend AAMCO since they warranty their work. They will have to "unbend" the bracket or readjust the cable play, or repair the linkage that places the car in the proper gear according to your indicator on steering column or dash.

Not a big deal...but then again you could have crushed the synchro gears, but i truly doubt it!

SOURCE: 1999 F250 only goes in reverse, no forward gears.

I believe that reverse is operated by a brake band. So it seems to be stuck. It is operated by a piston, and the seal could have swelled and caused too much friction. But you could loosen up the adjustor so that it is disengaged, in order to get forward gears again. Perhaps you can force the piston to retract as well, once you drop the pan again.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

SOURCE: Manual transmission jumps out of 5th gear.

Jumoing out of 5th gear is a problem that this company has known about for years. Also chain tensiors on the 2.2 coming loose both of these Items shaould have been recalls yet Gm and Isuzu just turned there backs and walked away. Their is also a problem with the anti lock brake systems on these trucks you are better off stopping like the flintstones if you have to come to a quick stop. Anti stop is the right name because u anti stopping u best try to hit the ditch lol. The exgust manifoild is a another story I dont know who the fool is that came up with the ideal of putting a spring flange gasget between the maifoild and the exgust pipe but this is a lot of not only noise but work to replace every year if it makes it that long without blowing it out. The chain tensinor will cost a good bit to replace u see when it comes loose it breaks the timing chain which in turns bends valves and then there is the cost of the head having to be redone lol. The bottom half og the motor is great pulling power is great clutch well you will have tyo change it after 65000 miles that along with the slave cycinder lol gas 350 to a tank 390 on the highway which is great for a 18.l5 gallon tank . %th yes it isnt just something a 20.00 is going to fix lol and it wasnt your fault Gm and the other maker did shity work now all these Hombras owners are paying for there mistakes. It will be fine it will last a life time just keep on holding it w3hen u slow down hell im doing it in aqll my trucks now it kind of becomes a habit after a while but better then giving gm anymore of my money 1, exgust flange gasket 2. timnig chain tensioner 3 tranmission 5th gear slipping out. 4 Braking hazard to your health 5th well i will take the 5th i think I have said enough.

91 Nissan truck 5 speed transmission location for reverse lockout


I didn't find a reverse lockout by that terminology in the Haynes manual, but there is a reverse check sleeve mounted on the left side of the transmission just forward of the gearshift assembly. It is covered by an oval shaped cover held in place with two bolts.

If the problem is in the shifter lever assembly, you can remove that from the top of the transmission after you remove the floor mat/carpeting, slide up the boot, and remove the six bolts holding it to the transmission. But, if everything seems to be free and moving smoothly in that assembly, the transmission will have to be disassembled to find which shift forks or associated rods are bound up or broken.

5th gear out on 91 Toyota Corolla. Expensive to fix? Worst case scenario?


5th gear out is a pretty general description, Is it grinding when trying to shift into 5th or when you go to 5th it pops out, or you shift into 5th and nothing happens? It could be a simple syncro repair to replacing just the 5th gear to rebuilding the whole transmission, either way, you may want to consider just buying a JY trans, it would probably be cheaper.

Is it going in gear, but vehicle just doesn't move, or you can't get it to go into the "reverse" or "5th" gear location? If you can't get it to go into the selected area (reverse or 5th gear spot) then I would guess you you will need to pull the top cover off, and slide the "fork" back onto the shaft. I have seen this happen before. I guess if my response wasn't helpful, I would elaborate a little more about your problem.

Car is stuck in second gear and wont go in reverse. it is a 1995 suzuki swift cino with a 5spd manual. Thoughts?


try rocking it while someone sits in it trying to pull out of second. This may give you enough play to get out of the stuck gear. Sounds like a linkage problem
