2005 Ford Taurus blower only works on defrost mode. Would it be blower motor resistor or actual knob switch?

It would be a vacuum line has broken or the controller is bad. Most times it is the vacuum line. I run a new one from the engine to the controller. I drill a hole threw the firewall and secure the line threw it with silicone.

Could it be Blend Door Actuator

  • Randy Ohler Jan 03, 2017

No, because the blend door motor changes the temperature from cold to hot. It is electrical. Older ones were cable.

Make sure the knob is actually turning the switch, these brake on Ford cars/trucks all the time. Check fuses, check blower motor relay,Check for power at blower motor, verify resistors are functioning properly, replace blower motor.

I have a 2000 Taurus SES. Recently, the A/C blower stopped working. I have checked the blower motor fuse, and the blower motor coil fuse, and they both look good. Also, I have replaced the blower motor...

You don't say if it is climate control or manual. Either way, the relay gets power from two fuses, a 10amp for the relay and a 40amp for the actual motor. Did you check them with a meter to see if they have power with the key switch on ?
The relay sends power to the motor. The resistor and fan switch provide the ground circuit for the motor.
Does the motor have power and will it run if you jumper the ground circuit to the body ?

Where's an 2005 Ford Focus Blower Motor resistor

Might be the Resistor pack located close to the blower. It has a flat connector with 4 or 5 wires, and two small screws holding in the duct. It may be a crispy critter. It happens... The blower moves air across it to keep it cool. The blower motor may be bad as well, or possibly the fan speed switch. May very well be the fuse for the blower as well. The blower connector may be loose. Let me know what you find.

A/C fan motor only works on high. Need how to info to replace switch for fan motor control

Your problem more than likely isnt the switch for the fan control, but the actual Blower Motor Resistor is bad... here is a helpful diagram and "how to" on replacing the resistor.

Hope this helps...

Why the heater motor/blower control knob works only on high,if i put it in low/medium range, it will turn-off

Very common when heater blower motor "Resistor" goes bad. In most cases they are either located under hood on firewall, passenger side, or under dash, passenger side, near blower motor. If I can confirm on location of it, I'll get back to you.

If you can, check if there is voltage at the blower motor connector with the ignition on and the engine not running. If you have voltage, the blower is bad. If no voltage, it may be a bad blower switch, the blower motor resistor assembly, or the wiring between them.

The resistor assembly is on the evaporator housing under the dash on the passenger side and near the blower motor. The glove box must be removed to check this and the blower. A thermal limiter resistor is built into the resistor assembly and will open, ie melt, with excessive heat.

Without more details on this, it appears either your blower motor or the blower motor resistor assembly is bad.
