Your A/C system may have a leak since work has been done on it, this is common since the system is always under pressure and more so when working. Once the system is low on R134A, the sytem will not aork to keep the A/C compressor from burning out due to the lack of R134A which is also a lubricant to the System. Your going to have to get the A/C system recharged after the leak has been addressed and stopped to keep the R134A from leaking out again which would cause your A/C system from working. If there is An Auto Zone around your area, you can buy a recharge kit for your car. Note that over charging is worst then under charged, an over charged system will cause the compressor to fail and will be costly. Here is a link on how to and Auto Zone sells this product and I am sure the staff at Auto Zone can help you with any questions you may have and do not buy any stop leak for your A/C system. The stop leak will only cause further problem, like plugging up the filter and making the valves stick. Good luck and hope this helps you cool down you car soon. http://www.id-usa.com/how_to_recharging.asp

The best I can tell u is that the smell is from a leak at the evaporator or connections. I advise to get another opinion because it sounds like a lot of guesswork. if u get the work done, make sure the work comes with a warrantee! I gave all my customers warrantees for 20 years. That's part of the diagnostic business! Good Luck If u don't get a warrantee ,don't get the diagnosis or work done

AC blowing hot (in FL) my son may have overcharged the system, compressor does not engage is there a switch that shuts off the compressor if pressure is too low or high?

What gas was used to recharge the system?, if compressor does not engage, then the compressor clutch is broken, needs to be replaced.
I hope your son didnt recharge the system with Freon, most cars now are filled with R-22.

I'm replacing the a/c compressor, the orifice tube and the accumelator dryer. Question 1, is the accumelator dryer and the condensor the same thing? Question 2, is it necessary to use a shop vac?

CONDENSOR IS THE SMALL RADIATOR LOOKING DEVICE WITH COOLING FINS IT IS MOUNTED IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR. THE ACCUMULATOR LOOKS LIKE A CANISTER OR LOOKS LIKE A CAN.YOU NEED TO ADD 1 ONCE REFRIGERANT OIL TO CONDENSOR AND ACCUMULATOR. YOU NEED AC VACUUM PUMP. NOT SHOP VAC. THE AC VACUUM PUMP COST ABOUT $400.00 YOU CAN BUY CHEAPER ONE FOR $60.00 YOU NEED A AIR COMPRESSOR THAT OPERATE AIR TOOLS WITH.YOU NEED VACUUM PUMP TO REMOVE ALL MOISTURE OUT THE AC SYSTEM BECAUSE MOISTURE WILL FREEZE UP IN THE SYSTEM.

My experience with A/C Condensors is that you can take it to a Radiator Shop that welds aluminum and they can repair it by welding the hole closed. I had it done twice on my truck's condensor and it works great. To try and resolve the problem you can put some fine mesh screen in front of the condensor to keep debris from puncturing it.

Did anyone check the freon pressure?A leak will cause no cold air easily within a week of recharging.What is the 14 reading on the compressor,voltage?200-210 sounds a little high,but with the cooling system having mostly antifreeze rather than water,it could probably go up to about 240 or 250 before antifreeze overheats,unlike water boiling at 212.If you didn't replace the thermostat,you should at least try that first.You're car is only 5 years old but I don't know the mileage you have.Also,in most cases(probably 90% or higher),the check engine light really is quite useless,unless you are experiencing problems,which in your case it is.So,for now,let me know if you changed thermostat,and if they checked the system pressure.Are you in FL or TX?I am in FL.Many people post that their check engine light comes on,but there are no car problems listed,they run the computer test($90+),and it comes back telling them something is bad.Many people have spent $1,000 or more trying to get it to go out and it doesn't work.Then they come here.I have read forums where people suggest putting black tape over the light.I would not but that is just an example of how useless the light is since just about anything could cause it to come on.
Good luck! Greg

C240 AC Not Working

Compressor = Pump

Condenser = Radiator

Unless there is actually something wrong with the condenser (i.e. it has a hole in it and is leaking refrigerant) then there would be no reason to change it just because you are changing the compressor.

It would be a bit like changing all the radiators in your house just because the central heating pump stopped working!

Hope this helps.

Ac runs hot

If the electrical cooling fan for the AC condensor is operating, I'd just try adding a can of R134 to your system. It isn't costly and it may have just fallen too far to be effective. The coolant molecules are so small, hardly any system remains tight enough over the 8-9 years you have used the car to avoid some losses.
If the fan isn't operating, you need to find out if the fan motor is at fault or a relay isn't turning the fan on with the AC.

Radiator Fans

You may have air trapped in the cooling system, this causes a hot spot and the fans run, This is a common issue on most front wheel cars, jack the front of the car up as high as you can, fill the coolant reservoir full, run the engine until hot,( don't overheat it) then shut down, let the engine cool, this should self bleed the air, refill the coolant bottle and retest for your problem, restore the wiring, the not running fan is for AC. Spray cold water from a hose on the radiator his will help get the air out after the shut down.
