How do i make an oil and filter change?

You can purchase a repair manual at your local part store that will go in to detail on how to repair and service your year of vehicle. Sorry not trying to sound mean just trying to help. Also check your owners manual for fluid capacity and type. There also will be a service manual in with this book. Good luck.

Just had my 120000 service done on a XC90 which I just purchased. It was running just fine and then started to consume oil like crazy. Took it back to mechanic and he said the turbo is going out. No...

There is the possibility, the turbo was going out and the previous owner had thicker oil with oil treatment additive in the engine, hiding the turbo seal problem.Did your service include an oil and filter change? Your new regular (proper viscosity) oil may now be showing the leaky turbo seal.Did you have a oil change done at your service?Once you have the seal/turbo rebuilt, may sure to always idle the engine a minute before shut off after fast driving. This will increase the life of the turbo seals.

How often do I have to change the oil on my 1998 Lincoln Continental?

Should change every 3,000 miles if your using standard oil. Can go 5,000 miles with synthetic oil. Consider using an oil designed for high mileage cars .

Hi I have a 2001 Honda Accord 1.8 vTEC; I have used it sparingly since last year's service and MOT. Can I delay service by another 4-6 months so I can do the service and MOT, along with other services

Sorry old school dinasaur here ,no 5000/6000 miles a service ,sorry for being hard but that is my service schedule it also includes changing wheels around including the spare .Topping up battery ? oiling door hinges checking everything and oiling nuts on suspension so they dont go rusty ,spraying underneath with waste engine oil to prevent corrosion ,drilling a drain hole in boot if its not draining .cleaning light bulbs and greasing the buld contacts .maybe drill a hole in outside front floor pans if windscreen rubber is leaking .Think i should go get back in my coffin now before i get told off .

I just purchased a 06 pontiac torrent. no service record. What kind of oil do i use in this suv? It has 100300 miles on it.

Try a 10w 40 weight.
If you live is a hotter climate use a 20 w 50.
The old addage about "once you use synthetic oil you have to for the life of the car" isn't true.
You just can't mix the two types of oil.
Good luck,Gary

When I check the oil it smells of gas motor run strong but why would there be gas in the oil?

your oil may be breaking down, try a really good oil change with a fram oil filter, recommend that you use castrol 30 weight oil in winter and 40 weight in summer, also add lucas oil treatment in with the oil change,it gives great top of motor lubrication, not like regular oil.fram filters are great too, they won't fold under pressure like a cheap one would.when you refine oil,it turns into gas.if you've been using a quick oil change place, stop. find a mechanic that can change your oil. you go to parts store, purchase an oil change kit with 30 weight castrol oil, tell them you want to add lucas oil treatment in on the oil change and have them look up your engine to see how many quarts of oil it takes, make sure they know that you want to add the lucas in on the oil change so you don't overfill the oil.after you've purchased the oil change kit, then go to your mechanic with your supplies and have them change your oil.after you've done this once, you'll do it all the time.quick oil change places buy their oil in bulk and as cheap as possible, then charge you for quality products.they break down quicklyand add very little lubrication to your engine.thank you for choosing fixya.com

Does the transmission need to be flushed and if so how often, and at what point. The rear passenger lock works intermittenly.

take door panel off and oil the mecahnism with a oil can with engine oil in it ,as for gearbox their is a difference of opinion here because as iam europe their called granny wagons and no servicable parts are available so motto here is if it works leave well alone but some other mecahnics on here go on about a "tranny flush" and filter change but this doesnt appear on service schedules on our europeon vehicles .But then most vehicles this age are on their last year of use before scrapyard because of the annual vehicle inspection test certificate is so strict in europe

We have 2008 Honda accord. There is yellowish

It means it's time for service---- to change engine oil -- check air filter and various maintence stuff--- if you have the owners manual it will show you what service to perfoam and to log it in the service book.
Also has intructions in the owners manual as to how to reset the service warning light-- kind of tricky but once you get it it's pretty simple.

I received a free 4 service certificate in the mail for my 2008 pontiac Solstice and I need to know if I can use at the Ferguson Pontiac Dealership in Norman Oklahoma or where I bought the car new?

Read to see if there is any restrictions and where the certificate came from. Most dealers will have incentive for you to buy from them, like free oil change and light bulbs for life as long as you own the car. The only thing is it is only good at there service department. There should be a number to call to get more details on your certificate. Good luck and enjoy your new car.

First Service on my Z

service runs every 3,750 miles
If you look in the owners manual there should be a separate service maintenance booklet explaining all the things that get done in each of the services.
If I recall, only the 15K intervals are any REAL services other than just an oil change and a few inspections.

You should change the oil AT A MINIMUM of 2X per year (ie: every 6 months)

My PERSONAL opinion is that synthetic oil can be run and changed at 5 to 6K intervals. This is what I have done in my former BMW, my current LEXUS IS 250, and my NEW Z.

Once the Z is broken in (approx 1,200 to 1,500) you can consider changing the oil and start running synthetic.

Hope this helps and enjoy the Z
