Check all the fluids in the engine first. If those are good, then take your vehicle to an auto parts store (Autozone, discount auto parts, etc). They have a scanners onsite for most vehicles to get the trouble code/s.

2005 Highlander instrument panel shows lights on three symbols

The VSC and Traction Control require the engine to be at 100% in order to function correctly. As a fail safe these systems a disabled anytime the engine computer detects a fault. When they are disabled the lights are illuminated to let you know that they will no longer function. The true problem is with the check engine light. The engines computer has detected a problem with a sensor or system that it monitors or controls. You have three options to get the codes that will help you determine what's wrong 1. You can buy an inexpensive code reader for about $50 and pull the codes yourself. 2. You can call your local parts store to see if they can pull codes for you. 3. You can visit your local repair shop or dealer and have them perform a diagnosis. There is usually a set fee. They will pull codes, run some tests, and pinpoint the problem for you. Let me know what you figure out.

How do I get the FCC Code for my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Turn to ON position three times (dont start engine) and read odometer code blink lights; If the "check engine" light illuminates, it will either blink or remain constant, depending on the problem.

This and other additional details can find it in Check Engine and OBD Fault Codes articles.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I have had my alternator changed three times (under warranty) but still had to pay labour. Today, three days after the mechanic returned the car to me, the battery light came on again. Is there anyone...

Your car runs on battery power with the engine off and the key turned to "ON" ( Lit battery light ). So when you start your car the starter is using battery-power. If the light continues to remain on ( during idle ) somehow your alternator is not taking over as the car's primary power source. If you have a repair manual, look at the diagram for the relay that controls the power source being used.

If you have a sticky power control relay, the battery light will remain on until you step on the gas (supplying more energy to the relay) and will force the contacts to switch correctly.

Also, check around your fuses and relays for loose wires and corroded contacts -this could cause extra resistance and be the cause of needing more power .

Check engine light on after oil change three days ago

Your "check engine" light is an emission light. Oil is fine. You have to find the code to check whats wrong. Usually an engine light is just a tiny problem, but in other cases it could be anything from a sensor, to a bad cat converter. With a check engine light on a vehicle will not pass smog tests. You can turn it off by unhooking your pos side to the battery for about 3 min. Then you will have to drive it 30 miles non stop for the computer to put the code back in and the light will come back on

Check engine light came on. original code

My guess is you mean misfires, not backfires. How does vehicle run when warmed up? I'm also thinking that the misfire codes are coming from a lean mixture situation. No other codes coming up either? Please reply with year, make, model, and engine, just to confirm heading etc., please.

Check engine light, engine miss, loss of kompressor power

might have a vacuum leak. 2005 c class 230 kompressors have issues with the engine vent hoses under the intake manifold deteriorating and coming completely apart. This will cause mixture adaptations to max out and can cause missfires. Usually it sets a check engine light when it gets bad enough. There is a factory recall to replace these hoses, so check with mbz to see if your car has an open recall
