I can give you step by step instructions if you want, but they will be generic, if you can follow them it will help you. Every belt has something that keeps the tension correct, most newer cars have spring loaded idler pulleys. Some still have mechanical adjustment made to set the tension, Like a slot and a bolt. on the alternator or a bolt that moves it each way by screwing it in or out. If your car still has the diagram for your belts under the hood you can identify how they should be installed. this is a ten minute job at most and it is easy if you want to attempt it, My help is totally free and just want to help you. you can message me anytime or even call me if you want to waste a dime..lol

I would suspect a bad 'tensioner' pulley. When you get the new belt on, try to pull up on the uppermost part of the belt by hand - if it moves you should replace the tensioner (as this is what 'holds' your belt on). I can't seem to find a routing diagram so if it's not on a sticker under the hood or in your owner's manual try the local GM dealer...they have to have one. Good luck!.

I had this problem, it turned out that A/C compressor had seized and wouldn't turn, because the compressor was stuck it would rip up the new belt- so you can one of two things;
replace the compressor and belt
get a shorter serpentine belt and bypass the A/C compressor- there are several sites that show you how to route this.- i did this being a college student, not having A/C isn't that bad

most of the time there will be one mark on the crank pulley gear and the one on the cam pulley gear.usually a dot or a straight line.
