Double posted, why. then left of cars name. 02 WJ
please add to 1st post, add comments to it for best service.
the TV need to work not just be hooked up
the valve on the end must not be stuck out
or the cable rusted,
or adjusted wrong.
and you need to scan the PCM

is this a USA jeep
with gas engine?
not diesel.
WG not.
42RE trans?
545RFE trans
both are TCM brain shifted, moving,.
and have many inputs that can fail..

scan it.
see P07xx codes, all are transmission, and key to what's UP.

2002 jeep grand quick shifts into 2 and 3 gear i made sure the tv cablebis hooked up

happy new year !
A/T are complex beasts.
scanning it first, to see if the TCM brain is happy is #1
If it sees and error , that be like super important , right?
please tell all that works and not with said A/T
the good, the bad and the ugly, is what matters
the service manual covers this, called a test drive.
too quick upshift to 3.
the TCM uses many inputs to decide this, not JUST the TV.cable.'

1: ECM reported engine load. to TCM.
2: speed (speed sensors)
3: TV cable sure (when present)
4: TPS throttle angle. later years, #3 is deleted and only this is it.
scan it. You do or they do.
on all cars with TCM you must do that. or work blind.

42re tranny in my 93 jgc seems to be stuck in low gear. 1st & 2nd seem to be the same and won't shift automatically at all. Will not shift into overdrive. Changed throttle position sensor, new tranny

if its not shifting make sure fluids are full (I'm sure you did) im just saying is your speed sensor on trany pluged in , and your throttle return cable from trany to fuel return hooked up

I have a 2002 avalanche with 197,000km it does not shift into second gear. I was told to disconnect the negative cable then hook up will erase codes. It did work but is happening again. Also was told

I suggest running the fault codes to determine the exact reason for this . All disconnecting the cable did was an attempt to reset the codes but there was no attempt to determine what the fault was so naturally the problem will reoccur .

Unable to put Jeep Liberty in gear. The shifter moves however it moves way to easily. I've removed the center console, did a visual inspection, and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Where should I start...

Have you checked the shift linkage at the transmission to make sure it is moving with the shifter?

Make sure the shift cable is attached to the transmission shift lever.

If the linkage does not move when the shifter is moved, the cable may be broken and need replacement.

96 jeep grand cherokee 5.2 want shift gears to about 4000 rpm

Check the T.V. Cable linkage at the tranny end. Make sure the return spring is pulling the linkage back on its own. I fixxed a 96 and an 02 shifting at 3000+ by spraying this linkage and cable with WD40 and working it back and forth untill it moved all the way to the peddle up position by its self. Parts were rusty and sticking when turned past a point.

I have a 2002 liberty 4x4 starts and shifts in to gear then acts like its in neutral

Don't know if this will help however my caravan has gotten stuck in gear before and a simple disconnect of neg battery cable fixed the problem, since nowadays all transmissions are electronic and disconnecting the neg battery cable resets your transmission. Hope this helps

My gear shift is stuck in 2 wheel drive and won't shift to 4 wheel

how long ago was the last time you shifted it into 4 wheel drive? does the selector move? if not the cable could be locked up, got corroded or could just be kinked up, it is located underneath the vehicle on top of the transmission, get it up on jackstands and with a drop iight look at the cable while having someone else try shifting it into 4 wheel drive, if where it hooks to the transmission appears to be trying to move back and forth as they are trying to move it, they cable is probably fine, check to see that the linkage is clear of any obstructions,
