2002 saturn s series total steering collumn/ignition replacement

I have a 2002 s series and I just replaced the entire steering collumn including ignition. Now the car will turn over, but, won't start. Both engine lights come on and the security light flashes. What to do. Is it a security feature in one of the connection wires? maybe it,s a contact? I don't know? can anyone help me?

Did you give them the vin when you bought the ignition,it has to be the one for your car, also might have to relearn the key to the computer, turn key on try to start let go and leave in on position for 10 minuites turn off for 5 seconds, turn back on try to start let go leave for 10 minuites, turn off for 5 seconds ,repeat one last time, takes a little over 30 minuites,to complete, the car thinks your trying to steal it and is disableing the fuel pump

This is difficult to diagnois. Start by removing a plug have some turn the motor over and ground the plug to see if you are receiving any spark. If you are receiving spark then likely the engine is not receiving fuel, remove one of the fuel injectors, turn the engine over to see if you are receing any fuel. If you are receiving fuel and spark then start checking main fuses.

Here's your book info is below...
Most auto parts stores carry Haynes Manuals. You can order them from Haynes if needed. Or...often they are carried in your local library.

I have done Ford and Toyota clutches using these books. Clutch replacement is not hard, just time consuming...And easier if you have a lift.

Note: If like many vehicles, don't forget to replace the engine rear main seal while you have access with the fly wheel off.

You can call Haynes and ask specifically if the book covers the repair you are attempting. I have called them to get more specific wiring diagrams not always provided with the books. Very helpful in providing tech data... I have a Haynes manual for all my vehicles...makes maintenance and repair much easier than researching every I need to do something to my vehicles.

Best of luck finding the information you need...

2006 Saturn Ion 2 - Key stuck in ignition and will not turn off.

1) the NHTSA will do nothing as its not a safety issue, as a lock cylnder can never lock up a steering wheel while in the run position..it is impossible.
2) most times it not a quality problem with the lock cylnder but that people have too many keys and things on their key ring and that weight ruins the lock cylnder

Saturn ignition switch

Time to take apart the steering column.

Mine is a little older than yours. But if they are at all similar this will be easier than you think.

You'll need to remove the two piece steering column shroud (just behind the steering wheel). Screws located underneath. You may have to jockey with the column tilt and be a bit of a contortionist, but don't get frustrated. Just getting the bottom off should be enough.

On the left side, directly opposite the ignition, you’ll see a piece of round plastic held on with two bolts. This is really the ignition switch.
Take out the bolts ( 7 or 8mm).
Take out the two plugs (blue and white) from behind it.
Take off the switch.

Hope this helped.
