I am installing an after market tachometer and need to know the correct wires to connect to on distributor. 95 Honda Odyssey

I have a blue and a black wire plug by the top side of distributor and then there is a cluster of various colors. I'm assuming it's the blue one i splice into for constant feed to tach so it reads proper rpm?...my tach has 5 wires- red,black(togetherish)(red,black,green-togetherish

My honda oddessey 1995, my engine crank but will not start and no spark in the spark plug, check fuel system no problem, replace already the distributor cap,rotor,ignition coil,spark plug, spark wires....


Hi, since you've replaced everything else, about the only thing left is the crankshaft position sensor. This is the sensor the computer uses to time the spark signals. Because this sensor is expensive, I recommend you test it first to verify it's bad before replacing. I have pasted test procedures below as well as replacement procedure in case it fails the tests. You will need an ohmmeter for the test. If you don't have an ohmmeter, you can buy one for as little as $10, or maybe you can borrow one. You will also need a timing light if you replace the sensor. TESTING CRV and 1995 Odyssey Models

  1. With the ignition switch OFF , detach the electrical connector on the side of the distributor housing.
  2. Measure the resistance between the following two CKP wires:

    CRV models: The blue and white wires. The resistance should be 300-700 ohms. 1995 Odyssey models: The blue/green and blue/yellow wires. The resistance should be 700-1,300 ohms.
  3. If the resistance is not in the specified range, replace the distributor ignition housing.


REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CRV and 1995 Odyssey Models

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the distributor cap leaving the wires attached and place aside.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the side of the distributor housing.
  4. Make a matchmark reference mark between the distributor housing and the cylinder head and remove the distributor housing assembly.

To install:
  1. Transfer the components not supplied with the replacement distributor housing assembly.
  2. Install the distributor housing assembly in the reverse order of removal.

7. Check and reset the ignition timing as outlined below.

ADJUSTMENT CRV and 4-Cylinder Odyssey Models



If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the shifter in Park or Neutral. If equipped with a manual transaxle place the shifter in Neutral. Make sure to apply the parking brake and block the drive wheels.


  1. With the heater off and in the full cold position, start the engine and hold the engine speed at 3000 rpm, until the radiator fan comes on at least one time. To check the ignition timing, the engine must be at idle speed and at normal operating temperature. Make sure all electrical consumers (defroster, radio, air conditioning, lights, etc.,) are turned OFF.
  2. Locate the blue plastic Service Check (SCS) Connector, as follows:

    Odyssey models with 4-cylinder engines: centrally located on the passenger side, under the dash. The connector has two wires; one is brown with a black tracer, and the other wire is red.

  1. Connect the SCS service connector tool number 07PAZ-0010100 or equivalent to the service connector. A paper clip can be substituted for the tool by forming a "U" shaped bend in the paper clip and carefully inserting it into the back side of the SCS service connector terminals. The purpose of the tool is simply to connect the two wires together temporarily.
  2. Connect a timing light to No. 1 ignition wire and point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.
  3. Check the idle speed and adjust if necessary.
  4. The red mark on the crankshaft pulley should be aligned with the pointer on the timing belt cover.
The white mark on the crank pulley is Top Dead Center (TDC).
  1. Adjust the ignition timing by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and rotating the distributor housing to adjust the timing. Set as follows:
    2.2L/2.3L Odyssey 2.2L models: 13-17° at 650-750 rpm
  2. Tighten the distributor bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and recheck the timing.
  3. Remove the SCS service connector or the substituted paper clip from the SCS service plug.

I have a 1991 honda accord I started it like I always do to let it warm up. It started right up like it always does. I went inside to let it warm up. I came outside and it wasn't runnung. I tried to start...

Use a test light to check for power to the coil on the black wire with a yellow stripe--see procedure below and other tests you can run. You will need a volt-ohm meter to run most of these tests.

The system used on 1990-95 Accords and 1989-95 fuel injected Preludes uses the distributor components to signal the engine computer. The ECU triggers the spark through the igniter unit and coil. This spark timing is controlled by the computer as an integrated function of the fuel management system. The distributor contains a crankshaft angle sensor and a No. 1 Cylinder Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor. Using these and other electrical inputs, the computer controls spark timing electrically.

1990-91 ACCORD
See Figure 6

  1. Remove the distributor cap, rotor and shield.
  2. Label and disconnect the 4 wires from the igniter unit.
  3. Switch the ignition ON . Use a voltmeter to check for voltage between the black/yellow wire and ground. Battery voltage should be present. If the voltage is not present, check the black/yellow wire between the igniter and the ignition switch.
  4. Check for voltage between the white/blue wire and ground. Battery voltage should be present with the ignition ON . If voltage is not present, check the white/blue wire from the igniter to the coil and test the ignition coil.
  5. Turn the ignition OFF . Check for continuity in the yellow/green wire between the igniter and the ECU.

  1. Check the blue wire for continuity between the tachometer and the igniter.
  2. Check the resistance between the terminals which connect to the blue and white/yellow wires. It should be between 1,100-3,300 ohms. If not, the igniter must be replaced.
Coil test:
1990-91 ACCORD

See Figure 16
  1. The ignition coil is contained within the distributor. With the ignition OFF , remove the distributor cap.
  2. Remove the screws securing the black/yellow wire and white/blue wires from the terminals. The black/yellow wire is connected to the primary positive terminal and the white/blue wire is connected to the primary negative terminal.
  3. Measure resistance between the terminals. Resistance should be between 0.6-0.8 ohms.
  4. Measure the resistance between the primary positive terminal and the secondary terminal. Resistance should be 12,800-19,200 ohms.

  1. All test conditions must be met. If any test condition is not satisfied, the coil must be replaced.

The heater fan on my 2006 Honda Odyssey has failed. The relay and fuses are all OK. I assume the fan is good since the vehicle is a 2006. Please help


the blower power transistor may be bad. (its near the blower motor 4 wires), I would start there. if you connect the blue/black wire to the black, it should run full speed, if it does, replace the transistor.

1989 Honda Civic hard starting and dies for no reason. Cooling fans not working. Trouble codes are #6 coolant, #10 air intake temp, #16 fuel injector. Can anyone lead me to a solution for these problems?

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

95 honda accord V6 tachometer jumping and cutting out.


I had the same problem with my 1995 Honda Accord V6 2.7L a year ago. It was a pain to have Honda diagnose the problem because it was intermittent and every time I took my car in to the dealership they said they couldn't reproduce the problem, but the longer you wait the more frequently your tachometer will fluctuate. I finally stopped by the dealership when the tachometer was jumping and they were able to diagnose the problem. In my case there was a faulty resistor in the ignition coil, but the entire ignition coil needs to be replaced. I don't know anything about cars but I know this fixed my problem. I went directly though Honda's service center so I know they charged me more than an independent repair shop but I'm looking at my invoice now and I paid $150 for the ignition coil and $200 for labor. After Honda diagnosed the problem I searched for "1995 honda accord ignition coil tachometer" and found that other people had the same problem and replacing the ignition coil was the fix. Hope this helps.
