Check engine light on ? What code ? There are many different (DTC'S) - diagnostic trouble codes that can set for knock sensors ! There all don't mean that you replace the sensor .

The knock sensor (KS) system enables the control module to control the ignition timing for the best possible performance while protecting the engine from potentially damaging levels of detonation. The sensors are located below each cylinder head on the engine block. The KS produces an AC voltage signal that varies depending on the vibration level during engine operation. The control module adjusts the spark timing based on the amplitude and the frequency of the KS signal. The control module receives the KS signal through 2 isolated signal circuits. The control module learns a minimum KS noise level at idle and uses calibrated values for the rest of the RPM range. The control module should monitor a normal KS signal within the noise channel.
Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 1
Remove the exhaust manifold lower heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Lower Heat Shield Replacement.
Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the bank 1 knock sensor (2).
Loosen the knock sensor bolt and remove the knock sensor.
Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
Remove the engine oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
Lower the vehicle.
Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the bank 2 knock sensor (3).
Loosen the knock sensor bolt and remove the knock sensor.

Where is the knock sensor located


This vehical has two knock sensors bank 1 and bank 2 ! bank 2 sensor screws into the side of the engine block closest to the firewall. and it is above the crank sensor. Knock Sensor (KS) Bank 1 sensor is on front side of engine block right of the oil filter and on the other side of knock sensor is the oil pressure sending unit.

code p0330 refers to knock sensor (KS) 2 bank 2--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring---KS---ECM
The knock sensor is there to tell the CPU that detonation in the cylinders is occurring and to alter the air/fuel and timing to stop it. If it happens when on gas (LPG) there is a slight difference in the octane rating of LPG and petrol and it may be that the sensor's parameters are at the limits for the LPG and so when the KS senses detonation the CPU puts the light on to let you know of that a sensor is outside parameters.. It may be necessary to have the vehicle retuned when on LPG by either reprogramming the CPU or using a different sensor.

I have a 04' Chev, 6.0L. Engine light came on, fault code came up PO332. I'm afraid the KS's are under the intake. Is there any way to test the KS to see if it is bad, or is there another problem that is...


P0332 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM).

Causes for P0332 DTC:
- Knock sensor circuit short to GND.
- Knock sensor circuit short to PWR.
- Knock sensor circuit open.
- Damaged knock sensor.
- PCM or ECM failure.

Solutions:
- Repair or resecure the harness or connector.
- Replace the knock sensor.

Your best bet is to just replace the knock sensor for sensor 2 bank 2. Call Auto Zone with part number SU1282 this is the OEM replacement.

The knock sensor detects engine detonation, allowing the powertrain control module (PCM) to ****** ignition control spark timing based on the knock sensor (KS) signal being received.

The knock sensor produces an AC signal so that under a no knock condition the signal on the KS circuit measures about .007 V AC. The signal amplitude and frequency are dependent upon the amount of knock being experienced.

If an engine knock can be heard, repair the engine mechanical problem first. If there is no apparent engine trouble, check the KS signal circuit for a poor terminal connection at the PCM. If a problem was found, replace the terminal.

Check the KS signal circuit between the PCM and the KS connector for an open, a short to voltage, or a short to ground.

You can measure the resistance of the knock sensor by connecting a digital volt meter (DVM)between the PCM connector and the engine block. It should read abot 100K ohms. If it doesn't, you should replace the knock sensor.

If the resistance is ok, then you can connect the DVM to monitor AC voltage between the PCM connector and engine ground. Make sure the engine is off and the PCM is disconnected. Tap on the engine lift bracket with a socket extension while observing the signal indicated on the DVM. If any signal is indicated on the DVM while tapping on the engine lift bracket, then the PCM needs replaced. If replaced, this unit needs to be reprogrammed.

PURPOSE
The knock sensor (KS) system enables the engine control module (ECM) to control the ignition timing for the best possible performance while protecting the engine from potentially damaging levels of detonation. The ECM uses the KS system to test for abnormal engine noise that may indicate detonation, also known as spark knock.

SENSOR DESCRIPTION
The knock sensor (KS) system uses a flat response 2-wire sensor. The sensor uses piezo-electric crystal technology that produces an AC voltage signal of varying amplitude and frequency based on the engine vibration, or noise, level. The amplitude and frequency are dependant upon the level of knock that the KS detects. The engine control module (ECM) receives the KS signal through a signal circuit. The KS ground is supplied by the ECM through a low reference circuit.

The ECM learns a minimum noise level, or background noise, at idle from the KS and uses calibrated values for the rest of the RPM range. The ECM uses the minimum noise level to calculate a noise channel. A normal KS signal will ride within the noise channel. As engine speed and load change, the noise channel upper and lower parameters will change to accommodate the KS signal, keeping the signal within the channel. In order to determine which cylinders are knocking, the ECM only uses KS signal information when each cylinder is near top dead center (TDC) of the firing stroke. If knock is present, the signal will range outside of the noise channel.

If the ECM has determined that knock is present, it will ****** the ignition timing to attempt to eliminate the knock. The ECM will always try to work back to a zero compensation level, or no spark ******. An abnormal KS signal will stay outside of the noise channel or will not be present. KS diagnostics are calibrated to detect faults with the KS circuitry inside the ECM, the KS wiring, the KS voltage output, or constant noise from an outside influence such as a loose/damaged component or excessive engine mechanical noise.

WHAT IS ENGINE CODE PO332?


The knock sensors (KS) produce an AC signal when specific frequencies are detected. When the engine operates, the powertrain control module (PCM) learns a minimum and maximum frequency of noise of normal engine operation. The KS system monitors both knock sensors in order to determine if knock is present. If the KS system determines that excessive knock is present, the PCM retards the spark timing based on the signals from the KS system. The PCM then retards the timing until no knock is present. When the PCM detects a frequency that is less than or more than a defined range, DTC P0327 will set for a failure in KS 1 which is located on bank 1 on the drivers side of the engine or DTC P0332 will set for a failure in KS 2 which is located on bank 2 on the passenger side of the engine.
But, the problem doesnt have to be the sensor, it could be bad ignition coil, bad spark plugs, bad/no/too much Fuel.......

How do i change out the knock sensor on a 2006 chevy colorado


You didn't list your engine size so please pick the applicable to your motor size:

Removal & Installation 2.8L & 2.9L Engines To Remove:
  1. Lift the vehicle high enough to gain access to the knock sensor (KS) through the left front wheelhouse.
  2. Remove the left front wheel and wheelhouse liner.
Knock sensor (KS) (A), Engine harness (B), Knock sensor (KS) connector (C)

  1. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) connector.
  2. Detach the knock sensor (KS) from the engine block.
To Install:
  1. Attach the knock sensor (KS) to the engine block.
    • Tighten the bolt to 18 ft lbs (25 Nm).
  2. Connect the knock sensor (KS) connector.
  3. Install the left front wheelhouse liner and wheel.
  4. Fully lower the vehicle.

My engine is knocking and missing


I think you have run the oil down low or have had a blockage in the oil gallery to the crankshaft.Resulting in the bottom end bearings wearing out.Drain the oil and check for metal particals.good luck!!
