Low state of charge on the battery may be the cause here or a failing battery. Have the battery charged and load tested.

Why would my 88 f250 econoline van not switch tanks completely and can the switch be replaced with a manual valve

The fuel pump may be starting to go bad, when you get below half a tank, the pump does not submerge in fuel as much to keep it cool and it will seize up and stall the motor. You will need to replace the pump and check inside the bottom of the tank for small metal bits that almost look like shiny sand.

for Manual Valve replace. Thanks

Hi, I have a 2003 renault clio and a warning light came on last night its a bit hard to describe but its a small rectangle with a zig-zag line in it and just below this (same light) looks like a coil...

I loved your description - I knew exactly the thing you were talking about! My manual says that it is a warning light for "Heater plugs on" (if you have a diesel) and electronic fault (diesel or petrol). If this thing comes on while you are driving, you should really get it seen to as soon as possible. Sorry I can't say what the electronic fault is, but not possible without being able to inspect it physically.

If you have a diesel car, this thing should come on when you turn the ignition key to position M. If you wait a while it should go off to show that the heater plugs are hot enough for you to start the engine.

All the best!

My car wont start, 1997 vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel

This sounds like a problem in the fuel shut off circuit. When you turn the key on, it energizes the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. When you turn off the key, power is removed and the pump is moved by spring to the fuel off position. Check for power at this terminal when you are having a problem, ( with the key on) If no power then I would check the wiring and connectors from this connection to the Ignition key. I believe it is wired direct. That can be checked at http://www.alldata.com/products/index.jsp

subscribe3 and get a wiring schematic for the car and see if it is wired direct to the ign switch of from a relay, I am sure it is a connection problem if you have no power.

A 1.7 diesel even if turboed, is dead slow in any vehicle let alone a van. Enjoy the fuel economy

good luck
