Question about Subaru Impreza WRX STi

1 Answer

Hi, having problems with my EJ20 Impreza, all started when i blew a tubo air valve when travelling, now vehicle does not idle properly, and no power above 3500 Revs, am really struggling to get this fixed, any help greatly apreciated, been told it was my fuel pump, have changed and still the same, clutch has started slipping but in the process of changing it now, is there anywhere else i can check, would that cause the power issues in any way. Also cutting off for some reason.

    HI,

    Thanks for the responce,

yes, the turbo is still boosting, the car seems to be ok in 1st and 2nd but not how it used to be, it gets really bad from 3rd gear up, will not climb to above 3500rpm. (In 1st and 2nd it will but like stalls / chokes after)No engine lights on and all hose's correctly connected. Engine has 90k KM,s on the clock.

was doing some reading on the site and could this be caused by a clogged cat converter, if so, how do i check this also.

also, concerning the air valve burst, could be that the hose was old and worn because when i replaced the radiator i have had to replace nearly all the hoses for the water circulation, the vehicle was just blowing them 1 by 1, could be the same with the air hoses, maybe

Is the Turbo spooling/Boosting ? If an after market blow-off valve was fitted are the vacuum hose's on correctly ? Is your engine check light on ? How many miles has your engine done? Sorry for all the questions but need to figure out why your air valve blew in the first place.

If it has a turbo on it then it might need a new one because tubos help supply extra air to the carbs to raise horse power but if the tubos is defective it could have an up and down idling effect and or stall when not supplying gas or when stoped I had the same problem in my Lincoln I replaced the turbo and it ran great hope this helps

Check if you have rough idling as well. You may want to clean out the MAF sensor found at its intake manifold. You may use carb cleaners to spray it or tuner sprays. Other than that it could be loose wiring or vacuum hoses. A faulty or dirt Idle Air control valve may cause the problem.

air idle control valve, I dont belive you have a ideler set screw..I do belive the problem is what I have Listed..........Best of luck

How can I tell if I need a new air idle control valve?
If your car has a rough idle or the idle cycles up and down, then chances are that you have a bad idle control valve. On modern vehicles, the purpose of the idle air control valve is to regulate your idle, and keep the idle smooth. The idle valve is controlled by the ECU or the computer, and when in gear the idle should be between 800 and 1000 rpm, and not in gear, between 700 and 900 rpm

1998 Impreza 2.0 non turbo wont idle properly

Lots of things it could be. Egr valve sticking, a hose that came off, a bad sensor for airflow, or even throttle position sensor.

Intermittent nature seems to point to something sticky or loose.

How do i bleed air from the engine block after replacing a new radiator? on a ej20 turbo engine 1995wrx

air will always travell to the hiest point possible,  if thermostat is in hand fill the engine untill it stops bublbling, connect ya hoses back up, run ya car and leave the radiator cap off for a couple of cycles of the thermostat functioning and it's done, just make sure you got enough water in the block before tou start engine, possible to blow a headgasgit, dont even need thermostat, leave it out and have cooler water circulating fulltime thats what i've done to mine never had issues with engine temp after that
