I PUT A NEW FUEL FILTER ON IT ALSO ...HAVE NOT DONE A EXHAUST CHECK YET ....COULD IT BE A INJECTION PROBLEM???

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

There are three basic problems with cars. Fuel, Spark, and Air. Yours sounds like a fuel problem. I don't know your model but does it have a carburetor or is it fuel injected? I am guessing it is carburetor. These are complicated little gadgets :) you should get hold of a workshop manual for your model that describes how to clean out your carbi. Hope this helps

Try cleaning the egr valve. Worked for me.
The egr valve is located behind the air intake.

-Remove the air intake.

-Using 10 mm socket, universal joint adapter, extension and ratchet, remove the two 10 mm bolts securing the egr valve to the intake manifold.

-Using the extension helps, since it's a tight area to work in. Makes the removal and installation so much easier.

-Be careful not to ruin the gasket. You can replace it but you don't need to if you're careful while taking it off.

-Using a metal pick and carb cleaner, clean the egr valve until most of the carbon buildup is gone.

-Make sure the solenoid can move freely, WD-40 works well to lubricate the solenoid.

-Install egr valve, tighten bolts nice and tight, you can torque it to spec if you want (15-25 ft-lbs?).

You'll probably have to clean it every year...try not to buy cheap gas...as in crappy gas...Shell works well...Good luck

10 mm socket, 3/8 in. drive
24 in. Extension, 3/8 in. drive
3/8 in. universal joint adapter
Ratchet, 3/8 in. drive
carb cleaner, spray bottle
wiping rags
metal pick

You didn't mention fuel filter. I'd also take time to have fuel pressure tested, as well as exhaust checked for restriction such as plugged catalytic converter.

Could be injection but looking at plugs or exhaust should be able to point you in right direction if that's the case. If you step on it (gas pedal) hard from slow speed what happens?

2000 sebring 2.5 stalled now no spark or fuel. new cap, rotoe ecm no change

Some suggestions:
--if the fuel gauge is near empty, add a gallon of gas. Sometimes the gas tank sensor get less accurate as they get older.
--crank the engine, unscrew a spark plug and inspect. If it's wet, you're getting fuel, and the problem is probably in the ignition circuit. If it's not wet, could be a bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, etc. (Also, even if it's wet, the fuel pressure might not be high enough, so you'd need to check that w/ a gauge -- a partially clogged filter could cause low fuel pressure.) If you haven't changed the fuel filter in a while, I'd do that first -- relatively easy and inexpensive.
--if you think you're getting fuel, there are many possible failures in the ignition system, including the coil (connected to the spark plug wires). Or could be one of the 4-5 engine sensors, including crank position sensor, temp sensor, etc. Also look for any wires that might have come loose, including from the air flow sensor between the air filter and the engine.

1993 Plymouth Voyager will not crank

Remove the Distributor cap and watch the rotor as you crank the engine. If the motor is turning over and the rotor is not moving then you have a broken Timing belt. If this is the case the Belt broken while the engine was running. I can tell you from experience, I owned one of these and mine did the same thing, Every valve in the head is bent. The good news it is not hard to replace on your own and it can be done without removing the engine. The bad news you have to remove your head and have it serviced by a shop.

Trying to trouble shoot why my performance is lacking or hesitating on my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado? It has had a recent oil change, new plugs, air filter etc. all fluids are normal and I have no...

Change the following:

oil, tranny fluid, and filters: air filter and fuel filter as well. Fill up tank and add 1 can of SeaFoam. Change spark plugs, wires, coil wire if distributor is present - as well as cap and rotor.

If coil packs are present, repalce the plugs and wires, air filter, fuel filter, and have the catalytic converter tested to make sure it's not plugged. This test will also let you know if the O2 sensor(s) are bad or not.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

NOTE: start with the cheaper: air and fuel filter. Then work your way up.

1994 FORD 5.0 BUCKS UNDER A LOAD

I had a similar problem with my 1999 E150 Van. After changing plugs and wires didn't solve the problem, my service technician said it was a problem with the automatic transmission. That was hooey! (technical term :-) In my case, the service engine light came on. I don't remember the exact codes, but they pointed me to 2 problems. 1) Misfire on #4. 2) O2 sensor error.

I researched the O2 sensor problem and found out that it was probably caused by a dirty Max Air Flow (MAF) sensor. On my van, the sensor is accessible by taking out the air filter. It's a very fine wire just beyond the filter. Spraying the MAF sensor with some electrical contact cleaner solved the bucking problem. (CRC brand electrical contact cleaner available at Wal-Mart for about 3 bucks)

Hope this helps.
