Question about Mini Cars & Trucks

I have a 1974 innocenti mini cooper s, the front brakes lock up as soon as the engine is started.they release if i disconnect the manifold vacuum pipe. I should i just bypass the servo.

I cant get spares for the Benditalia servo unit

I wouldn't bypass anything when it comes to brakes, wouldn't a standard 74 Cooper S parts fit ?

There is a problem with the thermostat gaskets. Often times they leak and allow cars to overheat. Check under your car and make sure that there is no coolant leaking. MINI has updated the gasket so if you get your car serviced at a mini dealer then your gasket will be updated. There is not a bulletin or recall for this replacement this would be at your cost.

if your car no present any problem i think that mechanic is a thieft.

Sometimes the fuel have mixtures that make the check light on , to reset disconnect the negative battery few minutes, no go more to this mechanic,good luck

To check the vacum pump.all you have to do is remove the pipe from the servo,and with the engine running that pipe should be sucking.place finger over the pipe and check.If its not sucking then check the pipe for cracks.If the pipe is ok then replace the pump

Convertible roof not working properly


Why would the battery be disconnected for front brake pads? Did a garage do this? Srange!!!
Roof sensors and switches out of sync after battery removal. Needs competent technician and GT1 computer to sort out.

Yes, I have a mini cooper 2003 and the RPMs just started to go up and down while i am driving... Could it be the AIC? Or the timing belt? Could me not EVER replacing the ****** filter cause it? THANK


could also be the intake manifold gasket. While car is running, spray engine cleaner or brake cleaner directly onto the intake manifold gasket. If you hear any difference in the idle, the gasket is gone. Also spray all vacuum hoses. Good to rule that all out before you spend a bunch of money on not needed parts. Mine was gone and replaced 2 weeks ago, same symptoms, and I didnt spend a fortune diagnosing the problem. Let me know how you make out

I have a 2002 mini cooper s with an 02 sensor simulator on the downsream o2 sensor. the vehicle still displays a post cat system lean (P2096) code.


This could be for several reasons. I believe that the mini cooper uses 2 02 sensors, so it's possible that you have a faulty second sensor.
Or you could have a broken or missing vacuum line or intake manifold leak.
The other possible causes are a bad engine temp sensor, when the temp sensor is malfunctioning the computer may increase or degrease the fuel supply, If you getting a decreased fuel supply on a cold engine then you would have a lean exhaust.I would suggest starting with the easy stuff first, you can use a can of carb cleaner to spray around the intake and on vacuum hoses to seem if the engine picks up and idle or decreases in idle. This will tell you if you have a vacuum leak on a hose of manifold.
IF you can find a leak then I would suggest locating the other 02 sensor and use a simulator on it also.
And lastly if this didn't fix it then a test of the coolant temp sensor and the engine temp sensor would be in order.

You need to squeeze the piston in with a 'C' clamp, with the brake pad on it and then slide the caliper over the rotor.

Rear brakes mini cooper


You rent (or buy) a piston retractor tool. It screws the piston back in place. I found mine for around $50. Saves a lot of time and aggrevation to use the tool.

The automatic (vacuum) release-type is standard equipment on all vehicles. The automatic vacuum-type parking brake system contains the following features:
  • A parking brake release control motor (2A843) with mounting bracket bolted to the parking brake control .
  • The vacuum-actuated diaphragm within the parking brake release control motor which is connected by a rod to the upper end of the parking brake release vacuum hose (2B653) .

  • The parking brake release control motor which is actuated to release the parking brake whenever the engine is running and the transmission is in a forward-driving gear.

Dashboard light yellow circle flashes when engine is switched on


by the way its explained it sounds like a brake fluid light, all the bmw's and mercedes have lights like that so id have your brakes looked at. hopefully this helps
