Question about Rover Cars & Trucks

Hi electric problems on my rover 75 petrol.It has a communication problem and the socket needs to be unplugged and then reconnected and this should sort it out but can note locate it Any ideas? Thanks

If you mean the DLC socket it should be to the right of the drivers position low down under the dash. open the drivers door and crouch down looking under the dash - you will see a multi pin socket that is the diagnostic port.

My rover 75 is running out of petrol even when the fuel guage is registering fuel in the tank. I have had the sender renewed but the problem is persisting


you may have a fuel pump issue. my advise would be to check the fuses and make sure nothing is blown and the check to make sure the fuel pump is working. also you could check to make sure the gauge is moving when you add fuel to it.

Heater not working


Possible heater tap valve problem, wrong vacume line connected to it or heater hoses not fitted in correct position on engine causing lock when thermostate opens.

if it has the Honda engine...replace the distributor assy complete.
If its the Rover engine...remove and clean the throttle body . Note that this task will need compressed air and special throttle bidy cleaner...dont damage the surface of the metal.

Why will the crankshaft not turn full circle on my rover 75 2004 petrol


I'm in the USA, so I don't have experience on your model of car. But usually when the crank will not turn full circle, something is blocking it.
Such as a valve or piston connecting rod, or something in the timing chain or belt area.

At a guess I would say that you have a valve stuck open or badly bent and the piston is hitting it If you have a noise before it happened and that is why you stopped the engine the valve head could be broken off or the top of the piston has broken away. The only other thing to cause you problem is a loose con rod hitting on the crankcase

Most common cause for this is a weak petrol pump,try renewing the pump ,its in the fuel tank

How do you change an alternator on a rover 75 diesel


Changing alternator for Rover 75 Petrol
Disconnect your battery first

1. You need full set socket spanners2. Remove the engine cover- it has 2 bolts3. Remove the engine mounting - it has 7 bolts-before you remove the mountings support the engine underneath with your wheel jack4. Remove the remove a supporting bar which is front and same level with the alternator- 2 bolts5. After removing the mounting there is lots of space to work on now6. Remove the alternator mounting -2 bolts and remove the connections7. If you want adjust the tensioner- but it can be done without adjusting the tensioner. you need a special tool to release the tensioner8. Put back the new alternator. Fit the belt on all other pukleys and then slide it in the front smooth pulley that is posterior to the dip stick....and replace all bolts....

you are done....

To buy rover 75, what are the common problem


Hi

The main problem to watch out for on these Rovers is that they are extremely prone to headgasket failure. This Rover uses a K series engine and headgasket problems are almost inevitable at some point during the engines life due to poor design of the cooling system.

You do not say what size the engine is on the model that you are considering but 1.8 engine is particularly troublesome in this respect.

Other things to consider is the fact that Rover have long gone out of business and spare parts and body parts will become more and more difficult to source over the coming years for these cars.

There are a few other known niggles with electrics and immobiliser failures but head gasket is the main thing to watch out for. There is an uprated headgasket that can be fitted which is said to minimise the risk of the problem occurring but even the cost for this as a preventative measure is likely to run upwards of £300 to include labour and fitting.
