Lots of ECM's on modern cars must have the defaults restored using diagnostic equipment and disconnecting the battery won't work. Once the default have been restored the ECM is educated by undergoing a complete warm-up cycle that generally means about 20 minutes of mixed driving and idling.

It does sound as though there are faults needing to be discovered and repaired first. A low idle speed might eventually need a software tweak to rectify.

You retrain it by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. Make sure you put the key in the ignition when you reconnect for the antitheft device to be re-paired.

HOWEVER in your case, you need to hook the vehicle up to a code reader and see what error codes it is showing. The problem sounds like sensors not the ECM.

Rough idle

Sounds like a automatic choke sticking....Take the air duct loose from carb..While accelerating engine spray bottle throttle spray in.....as the car tries to die...stop spraying...Repeat 3 or 4 times.....It will clean your injectors. Runs alot better...Remember....bottle throttle spray...not carborator spray

My pt cruiser stalls whenever i slow down but moves perfectly on high speeds. This problem started after timing belt snapped and i changed it

My pt did the same thing. took it to another mechanic, and he told me they left the timing off. took it back and told them what the mechanic told me, and they set the timing straight. Now it runs great.

Timing belt replaced on 2002 PT cruiser which idles roughly

Yes,your 2.4 engine is a interference engine, the mechanic should of showed you the bent valves and not installed the timing belt.Did he tell you they were bent when you paid or you found out after you drove home.I would go back and demand money back,if he's won't pay back,go to the BBB and report him and take him to small claims court, your engine is bad.

I CHANGED THE TIMING BELT AND SPARK PLUGS AND WHEN I DRIVE THE PT CRUISER ON THE FREEWAY IT DRIVES GOOD BUT WHEN I COME TO A STOP THE PT CRUISER RUNS BAD

Does the vehicle turn off, run rough, or hesitate?

It sounds as though you have a faulty Idle Air Control Valve".

Rough idle and intermittant misfire

I have a 2006 with 37800 miles was told today that the fan motor and radiator must be replaced. When the car started to overheat due to the fan motor not running fast enough it blew the freon out too so now a/c wont work either. The bill is close to 1000.00 Dodge offer to pay for labor as GOOD WILL GESTURE 144.00 to be exact. I have taken it in over and over with the same complaint you have described and was told to get a tune up so I did. Warranty espired exactly 3 weeks ago. My sugestiojn would be to sell the damn thing!
