I guess its not so much a back fire but bad misfire. will not go up a hill keeps lurching ahead under the misfire...

2006 bmw x5 4.4 engine. Just put in plugs still misfires. Tried to disconnect each coil but no difference in rpm. Going to get a tester at Autozone to test coils.

Often it takes a load to bring out the misfire like hard acceleration or climbing a hill, did you check the spark plug boots on the coils for signs of burning or other damage of any kind.

What is the firing order of 2006 3l bmw engine

Hi-

Number 6 cylinder is the cylinder closest to the firewall. For a misfire I recommend checking the coil and spark plug. The coils are known to fail.

Why does it lose power going up hill and fine on level ground

if the transmission dont slip that means the engine lacks power.
(torque)
this can be from forgetting to do tune ups>? every 60k miles. or per the operators guide, some cars need spark plugs every 30k did you RTM read the manual yet>? please do.
in order of likely (not physics)
bad spark (misfire) induced low power.
bad fueling lean
bad fueling too rich. (more misfire spark plugs turn black (tips)
bad engine. (compression loss)
the rare CAT melted, (inside) and getter worse.

to solve a riddle we do tests. simple tests with simple tools.
do you want to guess or test. it's your call.

Bmw misfire

It's either spark plugs/wires, coil pack, bad gas (need high octane) or a timing issue. Check each starting with plugs/wires, then coil pack then check timing (especially if you've had it "tuned")

02 ford windstar sometimes it chuggs going down the road changed the master air flow housing and sensor also changed the fuel filter what other reasons would it still be running rough???

CEL glows running?
scan codes stored, use a scan tool ,
chuggs. my guess this is misfire.?
misfire code is P0300 (random) either stored or in pendings
misfire has many reasons.
1 cylinder is like P0301 #1 misfire.
P0300 all cylinder, so not knowing what codes is stored, makes diagnoses, endless.
also does it misfire hot or cold engine or both
going down the road, flat, hills, steady cruise, fast right foot only.?
just a hint of when, and how.? WOT up hills> (wide open throttle)

misfire is under BASICS.
1`; poor compression on hot motor? if fails hot.
2: bad spark ever consider doing the 60k mile listed tune up? if not why not? all steps. not just 1 filter.
3: bad fueling.
4: stuck open EGR (covered under 60k, clean it.)

there are tests for each fail point. above.

use a scan tool, no scan tool the job is 100 times harder.

Misfires while driving

my problem was misfiring after 20 cool down then ran fine, due to bad exhaust O2 sensor. Also during certain driving conditions jeep would back fires/lurch/misfire and sputter. What I discovered was battery was sliding into computer wiring harness, disrupting sensor input/output signals. I place a 1" spacer on rear battery clamp to push battery forever forward and this forever cured the problem.

BMW 530i 2001 engine struggles under load

If a coil was bad, it would be missing or misfiring. Could be a clogged filter or a weak fuel pump. To check have the fuel pressure tested. If pressure is good, a tune-up might help.

Replaced the MAF sensor - nothing. Took it to a authorized toyota shop & checked compression which check out good and put the computer on. Computer read mis-fire on cylinder 1, and then multiple misfire (like it would jump around). We went ahead and replaced the fuel injector on cylnder 1 - did not solve problem as when we hook the computer up, misfire seemed tp stay at idle and seem better when running high RMP, but check engine light is on as it never went away. Went ahead and replaced the coil pack to cylinder 1 - nothing. what am i missing?

Car lurches and bucks, rpms erratic on acceleration on hills

You could have any of these problems:
1) vacuum leak- broken air hose or disconnected air hose.
2) water in the gasoline- add a water remover to you gas tank.
3) bad or disconnected spark plug wire(s).
If this were my Forester, I'd take it to a mechanic who has a electronic engine tester..

2000 4WD isuzu trooper v6 3.5l DOHC(Automatic tranny) is lurching

if your dorky mech didnt drive your car, , ignore him.
my guess you didnt pay him and all this is BS , ?

asking for folks to guess is silly and at 12,000 miles away .
but its ok here, it's like PAR here,
endless , wild guessing. what else can you expect here/?>?
do not fix cars by statics, ever, your car don't read those, so does as it pleases, called ENTROPY./fate,luck or natural wear/tear., effects.
all cars do that. so avoid the Mr. Guess.

The CEL lamp is only for smog, it's not a diagnosis tool unless its stuck on. see?
you cant fix cars lacking a Scan tool doing so is silly.
why try?
learn fact one, many errors, will clear as you drive car,
and say engine misfires. then you got to autozoned and its now cleared. a waste of it time, no?
finding most problems, takes driving and scanning at the same time.

seems your engine is 6ve1 engine, the last one made sold in usa.
the new gen. V6 , DOHC engine.,
ever get a new cam belt, ever? or going for the world record.
over 60k miles

last you said
Online points

what does that mean,> online, (sure web) but
did you tell others real DTC errors and ask
or just tell them CEL glows what are the possible errors
my car has over 100 possible, why guess that?
be sillly
only your DTC mater, your and your s alone,
post them or get now here. fast.

now we do MR. LURCH
there are 2 guy here (bad guys)
1: TRANSMISSION LURCH
2: ENGINE MISFIRE.

ALL MECH ON EARTH CAN DRIVE CAR IN IN 5 MIN WORK
TELL YOU IS IT 1 OR 2.
ALL CAN, I PROMISE.

the trans can lurch 2 ways.
slips. or flares, (bad trans)
or can shift late or early (too) and lurch.

misfire and scanned now can set any P03xx codes,
needs to be scanned failing to get the TRUTH.
eg: P0300 missed but now shows P0301 only, misses that truth.
