Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

'00 Dodge Gr Caravan,3.3L w/neg battery cable corrosion. Having trouble finding a suitable diagram showing where the three leads terminate (on the engine and elsewhere).

Corrosion extends past using a splice kit. Would like to replace just the neg. cable and not the whole harness.

Convert battery cables from top post to side mount replacement ends?

If all you are doing is changing to a side post battery, just connect all the positive cables from the old pos post to the new pos holder and all the neg ones to the new neg holder. If you've already cut them all off and not sure where each wire goes, all the reds are positive, all the blacks are neg. To make sure use your continuity meter to test. Connect one meter lead to any good clean metal part on the car and test between each black wire in turn, the neg ones will show a circuit, the pos ones will not.

Need to change battery cables in a 2006 Dodge durango

Are you sure you need to replace the entire cable or just replace the terminals that the cable is connected to?The terminals may be worn out and loose which leads to corrosion. Simply go to an auto parts store and buy the appropriate terminals and replace them. You can also get a wire brush to clean the cables before installing the new terminals. Also there are some corrosion protectors that help aid in corrosion.

You either have a corroded battery terminal, or corrosion at the positive terminal. Using just a simple 12v test light, put one probe on the neg terminal, then probe the positive terminal. Then probe through the insulation directly into the cable wire about an inch away from the terminal. (battery acid fumes will creep between the wire and the terminal, causing lead oxide INSIDE the terminal. If that's what you find, cut off the terminal and replace it. You can get solder on terminals, which is what you should use, not the "clamp on with a strap and 2 bolts type"

Five minutes ago our 1988 Dodge Grand Caravan was running. I replaced a brake light bulb and started it to test. Now it is dead. Completely. No current getting from the battery to any electrical...

Take a volt meter and read the battery terminals to insure there is power. You should have 12 volts dc or a little over. This may be caused by a direct short in the battery cables. Also tight aint always right. It doesn't matter how tight you have a connection if there is something (ie corrosion) interfering with the connection. To check this clean the terminals with a battery brush or a rough brush or file, then reconnect the terminals.
P.S. Coca Cola will also eat the corrosion off of anything.

I have a 99 dodge intrepid and it runs rough and stalls out. how do you find out the codes for what is wrong with it?

On my 98' Intrepid I turn the key to "ON position" Three times.( on-off-on-off-on-off-on). Don't start it. It will show the trouble codes in the odometer space. To reset the codes just undo the Neg. battery cable for 30 mins..

Gauge showing low output alt only 1yr old wondering if it could be regulator or batt or wiring

if you have access to a digital multimeter, connect the meter (set to volts) across positive and neg. terminal of the battery, should read roughly 12.6 volts, close to 10 volts, battery may be going out, also test the alt output, disconnect neg term and place negative lead to battery neg post and positive lead to neg battery cable (make sure meter is set to amps) should read near the rating, if both those, then you'd want to do a resistance test, (set meter to Ohms) disconnect battery and connect meter neg to either pos cable terminal or where the pos cable connects to the alt and connect positive lead to opposite of neg, should read next to 0, the check resistance of the ground by connecting meter between batt neg cable and body of alt.
