What is the timing setting?

The timing setting is a mechanical adjustment that synchronizes the position of the piston in the cylinder to the firing of the spark-plugs to produce combustion in a fuel burning engine. Most modern vehicles use sensors and a computer to control the actual timing for each firing of each cylinder. This allows the computer make adjustments to the actual time the spark plug in each cylinder fires and for how long to achieve maximum efficiency and fuel mileage. Even though the computer can make adjustments the engine still needs to be set up to a certain trimming spec so the computer can do only the fine adjustments as needed. Most engines require this timing settling adjustment to be done with the engine running BUT WITHOUT the computer adjusting the timing automatically. To do that the mechanic will follow a procedure that puts the computer in a OPEN condition causing it to only operate the engine in default settings and not make any adjustment based on sensor input. This allows the BASE timing to be set manually. After, the computer is returned to it's active CLOSED LOOP status for future driving.

How to adjust timing belt

The Timing is computer controlled. You would need a computer with the Dodge factory interface and the connectors that hook it to your car to adjust the timing. If the timing belt has been changed and it was installed a tooth or two off it will need to be removed and installed correctly.

How do you change the time on a 2004 Hyundai Getz?

hello on the instrument cluster (where the speedo is) there is a button with 'H' & 'M' turn either way to adjust hours and minutes to the coreect time. The longer you hold the button the faster it adjusts. when it gets near to correct time just turn it once for step adjustment.

I need the required valve & inyector clearance on a M11 engine

Cummins M11

Intake valve clearance 0.010 inch
Exhaust valve clearance 0.024 inch

The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and that is the order the valves should be adjusted started with first timing mark on main pulley adjust cylinder number 1 The valves and injector should be adjusted at the same time The crankshaft is then rotated 120 degrees to next timing mark and cylinder 5 is adjusted, the crank is rotated again 120 degrees to next timing mark and cylinder 3 is adjusted.then back to the first timing mark, cylinder 6 is adjusted, etc/

Adjusting nut on plunger should be adjusted to the point where you feel the plunger just reaches the bottom.of travel/bottoms out.
