SOURCE: Lancer 2002, change heater control switch

contrary to what the dealership tells you you don't have to take out the entire dash to fix the heater switch, all you have to do is first locate a heater switch which I thought was imposible to find too, but I found one online for 165 bucks from a used autoparts store, then all you do is take off the molding that surrounds your stereo, then take out your stereo, then you will see a blue cable on the right side and a black one on the left carefully disconnect those and the two wireing harnesses in the back the upper one is white the lower is black, then pull the unit out and put the other back in the same way, now it's still going to stick cause of those moron engineers so if you kneel on the ground and look next to your gas pedal you will see to pieces of white plastic that is why you can't switch to heat that flimsy cabel has to push that gear forward, that gear is sticky so it won't go forward, there is a replacement gear to fix that problem that should be about 18.00 from the dealership. it took me about an hour or less to do the whole operation. I just literally finished it 20 minutes ago in my wifes lancer which i broke that knob off of. Good luck if you havent figured it out yet.

Changed bulbs to Led bulbs only interior and side indicators now dash lights all light up at the same time and turn key all lights flash and clicks like mad

You can't use LED on the indicators. They have electronic power regulators that interfere with the flasher mechanism. Only use in places where light is constant like side lights or brake lights, side monitors.

The other consideration is that on newer cars, lighting is controlled by the Body Control Module computer, so the lights are controlled electronically.

How do I replace a climate control panel light bulb for a 2000 VW Cabriolet. I've pulled off the fan control knob and do not see a bulb?

the "bulb" is usually built into the switch/knob , i've never seen one that can be replaced without getting a new knob , or the other variation is an LED behind the panel , these are also non replaceable but can be repaired if you can find an auto electrician to carry out the job

LED Lighting

Not really no. There are kits available but all to often there are laws and standards for vehicles in which the conversions do not abide by. Make sure you research what is legal before attempting such, usually is not worth it.

Signal flasher

that is because many cars can not to that.
the flasher fails at ultra low currents of the LED, 10x less or more.
so what to do. well that depends on the controller,
some cars you can buy a new controller rated for LED
or in all cases, add a dummy load to both sides, to fool it.
im a tech. so what is a dummy load, its a restistor.
my guess is a 0.25amp draw, ohms law, key on 12v worst case
is R = E/I ohms is volts div. by amps. so 12/.25 = 48 ohms
rated at 3watts min.... how low you can go in amps, depends
on the maker of the controller.
i have this huge box of resistors i wire it to the lamp in parallel
and find out the largest (ohms) i can use and make the blinker work.
100ohms 75, 50, ... bam.

on cars with with electronic blinker they work and some dont/
in fact if you dig deep, the blinker module acutally does funny things
for bad blinker, (go dead for shorts. flash fast if 1 bulb is bad)
see???? lots and lots of controller. and some are smart and other dumb. on really old cars with thermal blinkers the LED just sticks on. ( no current to make it work>)

The left side dash light is out on the air conditioning/heater guage on the panel. How do I replace that bulb?

The LED bulbs on the AC/FAN cluster can be replaced. However, if you go to a dealer, they'll want to replace the entire cluster.

There are forums that can show you step by step LED bulb replacements that require only a simple trip to Radio Shack to get a soldering gun, some LED bulbs and a solder extractor (for the old stuff that melts off).

Here's a link to a step-by-step bulb replacement with pictures:

I can't find which fuse runs the cruise control. My cruise just stopped working, light does not come on in dash when CC is engaged which led me to believe I've lost power to the unit ??????????? 2006...

There is not a fuse for the CC itself, only the brake light fuse and the speed control deactivation switch ( on the top of the brake pedal lever ).

The deactivation switch is from fuse # 14, 10A.

Did you change the Stop / Turn bulbs to LEDs without the load resistors ? Usually the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) as a standard bulb is enough to keep the CC working, when doing LED Stop / turn bulbs.

The deactivation switch has the switch in the closed position to the PCM, when the brake is off.
Could also be this switch if the fuse tests good with a meter.

Check for power on both sides of the deactivation switch

Fuse #14 - Light Blue w/ Pinks stripe wire - deactivation switch - black w/ yellow stripe wire - PCM.

How do I change the light bulb in the steering

Pull the steering wheel buttons straight out of the steering wheel. I used a pick that was shaped like an "L". unplug the the button from the wire on the back of it. There isn't much room to work on it but it can be done. Then take the button appart, and FYI this is not a simple plug a new bulb in project. Find the burnt out bulb and desoder it from the board. Now you have to choose, you can either replace with same filiment type bulb that will burn out again soon or you can try your hand at fitting and sodering an LED in there. It can be done I did it. If you do use an led you need a multi meter to find the electrical current direction. You also must use an resister in line with the LED. You can find these on the web for a dime a dozen, I used 3mm 1500mcd and they came with the resisters (FYI they are too bright, go for a lower mcd like 800-1000). Soder in the light you choose, put back together and replace in the truck and your done. Now show all your friends what you did.
