Remove the battery leads and clean posts/contacts. with a wire brush. Clean the connectors on the end of the wire in a similar manner. Rub contacts with Vaseline. Wait two hours, put key in the ignition and reconnect the battery.

The alternator only charges the battery. If it is faulty, the Red battery light will come on.

The starter may be weak, but they usually work, or don't work.

Charge the battery overnight with a battery charger to make sure the battery is full of charge.

If it still does it, you need an auto electrician and a battery stress test and the output of the alternator checked. My thought is dirty contacts and low battery charge.

Starter problems, Suggestions???

Starters tend to fail intermittently. Yes, if it started after a "whack", I woul suggest replacing your starter. Make sure all connections are tight and of course clean terminals and cables.

New tdi starter weak turns slow

Sometimes battery cables can short the circuit; try getting them away from any metal or each other.

Toyota fortuner wont start

I picked up the same problem now..
I changed the starter since the starter was dragging.
The vehicle starts much quicker.
However. That elimanted the drag starting.
It hasnot eliminated the main problem, turning the key full to start and only sometimes it takes to start.
Checked the fuses and all relays. All earths.
All 100%.
Cud be the ignition? .
Cud be bad battery terminals?
Any other suggestions....

On my 2010 GMC Acadia the radio does not shut off when key is removed and driver door is open...why?

Try spraying contact cleaner to your on/off sw., turn the sw. on & off 5 or 6 times, also try spraying the door button sw.

My 83 impala will not starr or crank when key is in ignition lights come on on dash but no sounds

It's possible that your battery is low, although the starter will usually click. Turn the headlights on and see how much they dim when you turn the key to start. They should dim a little but come right back when you release the key. If they do the battery is likely not the problem. If they don't charge up the battery and try it again.
Make sure your battery terminals are clean, shiny and tight. If ou can turn them on the post, tighten them a little more so they don't turn. Try grounding the starter case to the frame with a screwdriver and turn the key. If it starts, clean the grounds between the battery and engine and between the engine and body. They should be on the alternaror bracket and at the rear of the engine to the firewall. You want bare shiny metal contact points. You may have to run another ground from the battery to the frame. If you do attach it to the stud on the front of the starter case. Use the same guage as the battery cable.
If you still have nothing, try shorting out the solenoid. If it starts, the solenoid needs to be replaced. If not, disconnect the battery and clean up the cables on the main terminal. It's a good idea to replace the solenois and starter as a unit, saves taking it apart twice in a short period of time.
If you still have nothing, there are 2 fusible links down by the starter. One is for the engine and the other is for the body. They do go bad over time. I just cut them out and spliced the wires back together, but it you want to replace them instead, the fusible link is 2 wire sizes smaller than the wire they are in. Use heat shrink tube to seal the joint and cover that with electrical tape. You have to keep water out. I've never bothered to sort out which link goes where, I just replaced both at the same time. You have to unwrap a lot of wiring to sort that out. Hope this helps.

Turn key all light come on as a normal start. but when key is turned nothing happens. no noise nothing.. keep trying and eventully starts.Sometimes 3 or 4 times.. Sometimes 10 min. later. it can be days...

You didnt list the type of car this is, the most common thing that causes this is the starter, i just had a saturn, the customer had the same problem we told her it may be the starter but cant be 100% sure until it actted up, she didnt want to replace it unless we were sure, so we kept and drove the car around for 5 days and finally the last day it didnt start and it was the starter , same problem turn key and nothing no noise and no start, i would have the starter replaced and go from there, its a mater of time before the car just wont start, hope this is helpful.

I think the starter in my 1997 chevy blazer is bad. when i try to turn it over it tries to start for just a second, but then stops and begins to click. i used to have a problem with my battery posts...

Try removing the battery cables and boost the vehicle with another. If it starts, replace the battery. If it doesn't start check for any loose connections at starter and for power at starter. If you have power, remove starter and have it checked and replace if necessary.

Before spending any more money you need to check for excessive end play in the crankshaft and if that is the cause then the bearings need to be replaced.NOTE:Ford starters do NOT require shims, you want the gears to mesh deeply as possible,

Car wont start, acts like battery is dead. battery shows full charge. full lights, buzzers, etc. put it on charger-didnt start...cleaned cable connections-didnt start...tried to jump with truck-didnt...

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.

GMC Acadia Battery?

There is no way Onstar would drain your battery in two days. Electric seats? They only draw power when they are running, same as any other device in your car, except the clock. You have either a ground -fault issue or a dome light is always on. Good luck.
