The best money spent is to buy a shop manual, if you're keeping the car.
I do not have that manual(my son does),but will for sure have a good film on it. don-ohio (:^)

SOURCE: I have a 1982 ford van that will not shift gears

look down on the side and see if a vacuum hose goes into a little round diaphram.. If you find it unplug it and look to see if it got fluid in it. If it does replace the modulator. If dry make sure the linkage on the carb is hooked up correctly. This is about all you can do without replacing an internal part.

I believe their is enough room to slide the pan out if you loosen the motor mounts and jack the engine up.

96 explorer disengages 4wh low but does not engage 2wheel

Does it shift to 4wd high range ? If so then shift to 2wd . What is going on here is the transfer case motor is stopping due to the motor position sensor has gone bad which means that you replace the transfer case motor assembly. But if you wish to make it a 2wd for awhile then remove motor and manually turn shaft . This can be done by raising and supporting rear axle truck in park remove motor turn shaft slowly with pliers and rotating the play in drive shaft. There are stamped markings on back of case showing gear positions..

Best way change oil pump in 1999 dodge durango

You have to remove the oil pan. It is different for 2wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. In either case, you have to jack up and support the engine. Most of the time you must also remove the transmission rear mount so you can jack up the transmission also in order to get enough clearance to get the pan out between the transmission bell housing and the frame crossmember.

On 4X4 vehicles, you must also first remove the skid plates and the front drive axle to get the oil pan off.

Transmission failures in your van are common, in fact they are so common that the transmission used I believe has a class action law suit against it, but that is not for sure, if you are under 100,000 miles go back to the Ford dealer and request factory assistance even if the warranty has expired, I worked for Ford for 20 years and I know if you are nice but persistent they will help you most times, One question I am still a little unsure by what you mean by it won't pull, do you think it is the transmission? is it slipping, is there a possibility this could be a lack of power engine problem? If you could clarify this a little more that would be great, thanks.
