Question about Isuzu Cars & Trucks

Diff has been fully reconditioned on Isuzu KB280DT.Contact pattern on crown/spindle gears was checked and seems acceptable. Is risk too great to drive vehicle over short distance to run in diff?

Measured backlash on crown/pinion gear mesh currenly .04mm approx.20% of spec. minimum tolerance value being .127mm;max.tolerance value around .180mm Will bearings installed seat in and cause backlash to increase to bring it closer within required tolerance spec?

Put it on jack stands and do it stationary in the garage .

Main concern is whether crown & pinion gears can be damaged due to possible over loading(even if done stationary on jack stands?)

BA Falcon m86 v8 limited slip diff torque specs for full overhaul , and change of ratio. Can't find any help through ford at all.

all differentials are all set to the same specifications as to pinion bearing preload , carrier bearing preloads and back lash between the crown wheel and pinion
the contact pattern is always the same as is the torque measurement of the drown wheel to carrier bolts
so any workshop manual that has a differential repair section will have what you want
find yourself a ford workshop manual and follow the section as to rebuilding a diff
Note --the pinion will have a + or - measurement on the end and that denotes the thickness of the spacer under the pinion between the pinion and the bearing inner race
you will have to get that right or the contact pattern will be out
3.7 ration is in utes or station wagons so it may be simpler to get one out of that vehicle and re-race it as all you will need then is new bearings and a collapsable spacer and a good tension wrench and a spring balance to get the pinion bearing preload correct

Min./max backlash required on diff for Isuzu KB280DT 1998model after reconditioning & prior to "running in"

around .005" -.010" measured at the crown wheel tooth
if you have back lash at the pinion yoke , that is not the backlash you need to measure as it is a combination of axle spline and side gear clearance in the diff
what is most important is the mesh position of the crown wheel and pinion teeth, preload on the pinion bearings and diff carrier bearings
you will need a workshop manual to get the correct mesh setting and preload readings

Which crownwheel and pinion of ratio 4.375 or 4.1 will fit into my front diff housing of my Isuzu 1993. Bolt on diff. Diff at the moment is a 4.777 ratio

no country
no car stated.
is it 4wd vehicle?
crown sounds like UK car, or India, or any crown colony?
the pinion and ring gear here.
first off the front and rear of 4wd must match.
does car have torque on demand feature, one more 4wd option.
all we know is 1993, somewhere on planet earth ,body class unknown.

I have a 2004 silverado 1500 and have clunking in rear end and was told I have excessive back lash in ring and pinion gears how do I fix that and how much would it cost?

suggest that you talk with a diff reconditioning specialist center
if you have excessive pinion to ring gear clearance the diff will be making terrible noises not a clunk
what you have is worn side gear washers in the diff carrier and that is not essential to repair unless you get diff noise on turning corners
All diffs have play in the diffs that most people say is pinion /ring gear problems when it is not
the clunk noise comes from engaging a gear and the diff housing reacts to the load ( radius rod bushes , stabilizer bar bushes etc), the side gears take up the clearance, and the
"U " joints or cv joints take any wear
Best advice is--- if all you have is a clunk ( check everything outside the diff first) and the diff runs quiet under acceleration or deceleration, DON'T fix what ain't broken

Overloaded ERF EC11 and now rear wheels wont turn broken Diff?

possible but if you overloaded the unit I would be checking for a broken axle . Jack up the vehicle and turn the tail shaft to see there are any violent noises indicating a pinion gear/ crown wheel gear failure. remove drain plug to check for metal pieces on magnet

My Honda 2004 CR-V develops a howling noise from the rear of the car after about 20 miles of driving. I have changed the rear differential fluid, and burnished the differential clutches per Honda Service...

A howling noise from a diff is an indication of the gear mesh( pinion to crown wheel) is not correct. Several reasons being worn pinion bearings--loss of preload on the pinion bearings --- crown wheel carrier bearings failing ---not sufficient preload on the bearings---wear on the teeth from incorrect diff oil in use. or simply wrong diff oil. The grade should be 80w90 OEP for normal or special oil for limited slip diffs.

How to Replace rear wheel bearing

first remothe the diff cover and drain, find the bolt that retains diff gears and remove then remove pin holding the diff gears, at this point do not rotate any part at all, axle or crown, push axle inward and remove c clip holdin axle in, pull axle out and using a bearing puller remove bearing, lubricate new bearing and install using new seal, examine axle for damage to bearing contact surface is good install , reverse procedure to finnish and fill rear end with new oil

I replaced the autohubs on my 90 trooper with a set from Warn. $180 and 2 hours. You might want to check the U-joints on the output shaft for the Front Diff. they can make lots of noise when they go bad.
