Question about Chrysler Cars & Trucks
Pinging or detonation , is uncontrolled spontaneous combustion of the mixture before the ignition is required.
it is not always heard and if left unattended will raise the combustion temperature high enough to melt the tops of the pistons
it is from incorrect air/fuel ratio , ignition timing or hot spots in the combustion chamber
run the fault codes as the sensors that keep the air/fuel mixture correct are outside parameters and you need to know which ones to replace
primary suspects are the heated oxygen sensor ( before the cat converter) the MAF/VAF sensors for air flow , BARO sensor for air density

SOURCE: engine knock 1999 ford crown vic
Are u using the recommended fuel ? if so try running a couple of cans of fuel injection upper cylinder cleaner through the system with the next few tanks of gas, try LUCAS brand, it is among the best, the next step is to have the engine de-carboned by the dealer, this works very well, you can also remove an octane selection jumper, it retards the timing 2 degrees, that will most times stop the ping.

SOURCE: car isn't starting
I was have this problem. Battery is low. Charge battery or use cable to start. You can check the problem using Diagnostic Trouble Code. Cycle ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On within 5 sec. The odometer will show teh P-code for the DCT code number. Error code for low battery is P0562. Only "DONE" displayed on odometer inicates that no DTCs are present (no error) and the procedure is completed. PCM memory has been cleared within the last 50 ignition cycles. Hello from Croatia.

Hello, Had the same problem but i did just the opposite I put a 2002 engine in a 2000. I found out that the cam sensor spocket (for the timing belt) Has the holes for the cam sensor in a different spots causing all kinds of problems also they did the same with the flex plate so I hope you took the one off the 2002 and used it or you will have to pull it back out and change it. Good luck
