SOURCE: lack of power when climbing hills and slow to pick up speed

It sounds like your vehicle needs a major tune-up. Try putting in some fuel injector cleaner gas additive and a new air intake filter.

SOURCE: TOYOTA TAZZ KICK BACK...

It sounds like it is loosing spark somewhere on the ignition circuit. e.g HT leads, distributor cap, one or more spark plugs faulty. The above usually happens when the engine is taking more load than usual, like going up a hill and the r.p.m at about 1500 - 3000.Try it again in a lower gear 1st or 2nd with the motor r.p.m high, about 5000 revolutions per minute.

Perform ODBII scan. Look for speed sensor fault. Trans has to read speed to know what gear to engage. Could also be a governor problem. Try shifting from low to high gear manually

What causes Soltice to rev up and down shift when climbing hill but loose speed

That is the way gears in cars work. When you go up hill, the car needs more gas, so you put your foot down, kick down comes into play and the gearbox chooses one gear lower, for more engine revs and lower speed you get more torque to climb the hill.

Get the car tuned up, you might have failing sensors or ignition problems causing a general loss of power that is needing kick down on hills.

Losing power going up hills

sounds pretty normal. what speed do you try out the passing gear? anything above 35-45 mph and it will feel like neutral. Passing gear is actually only 1st gear. When you press down the pedal, it forces the transmisson to shift into low gear.

I have a toyota 2000rav4 the problem is since it has automatic transmission it seems to be lacking power but still does fine in acceleration when ever running on long plain distance have trouble climbing

Well sorry to tell you but all Rav 4s have bad fuel comp and the auto matic gearboxes will not run in top gear untill the temp gauge reaches approx 28 deg as it is programed that way and some times will stay in 3rd gear once it changed down to 3rd from top, but if it gets into top {2400 rpm } 75 kph
due to the 4wheel drive.
But due to haw many KMor Miles it has done and how its been serviced as the auto gear boxes do have problems and can give the same problems pulling up hills, but its due to the Auto box But make sure the O/D button (over/drive) is off and dash light will come on the dash.

What kind of power should I expect to have, I have no point of reference, as I have never owned a diesel rig before, seems to have lackluster power on the hills, I have to really put my foot into it to...

diesel engines have loads of pulling power(towing/loaded)but you need to use the gears to keep the revs at peak torque.1st is a crawler gear(very low ratio).put car in 3rd going down steep hills saves the gearbox overheating.....

If it seems to run well otherwise, you might have a partially obstructed catalytic convertor. Usually if this is the problem, the engine will also bog down even if you try to rev it up when it is in neutral.

Losing power going over hill

well i think the piston ring are already loose, causing insufficient air compression leading to lower power especially on uphill tracks. check also for the air-fuel ratio! too much fuel usually is the cause for thick smoke emission; too much air, causes also less power.
