Check out the camshaft position sensor - if inoperative you will not get spark to your plugs since no voltage will go to any of your ignition coils.

no but the engine turn over ok it don't sound like no belt broken.

  • Bill Boyd Dec 28, 2016

it will turn over easy with a broken belt
however with a broken belt , the cam position sensors will not allow spark, the ignition timing will not work doesn't know when to spark for the cam advancement or retard
    is the immobilizer operational
Is the fuse for the ECM blown

  • Joe Russell Dec 28, 2016

i didn't find no fuse blown what is a immobilizer? how do i check for a signal at the coils and the crank sensor? will a ignition switch cause no spark how do i check it?

i havn't check for a broken belt the engine don't turn over like a broken belt, do the cam sensor fire the plugs or the crank sensor? how do i check the signal side of the coil, crank sensor and the cam sensor

  • Bill Boyd Jan 01, 2017

the crank sensor sets the ignition timing
the cam sensors sets the valve timing at rpms and that signal also is reported to the ECM to advance the ignition timing
it needs both cam and crank sensors to be operational or the eCM stops the injectors from working and the coils from firing the plugs
as to testing the sensors , that is all explained in a workshop manual for the engine
if you cannot get a manual for your car , then any manual for any model car that is running your engine will be the same

  • Joe Russell Jan 01, 2017

are you saying the crank sensor and cam sensor firing the coils?

  • Bill Boyd Jan 01, 2017

the crank sensor is the primary indicator for ignition timing and firing of the plugs

  • Joe Russell Jan 10, 2017

I'm not sure that the crank sensor is sending a signal to the PCM, i don't know is the crank sensor is bad or it's the wiring run from the crank sensor to the PCM that is causing no spark, what i need to do replace the crank sensor?

  • Joe Russell Jan 16, 2017

i replace a new crank sensor the engine still want start no spark at the coils and spark plugs why?

2004 GMC Envoy SLT 4.2L the engine will crank but want start why?

P1516 = Throttle Actuator Position Performance
P2101 = Throttle Actuator "A" Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance

Both of these codes indicate a problem with your throttle position actuator system. I'm not sure how GMC/Chevy treat this, it's possible that if the PCM/ECM will not allow the engine to start if the throttle actuator is not working properly (it may cause the engine to accelerate rapidly when running). You could try replacing the throttle actuator, but that may not solve the problem if it's a wiring issue. Best to have it checked out by a qualified mechanic.

The engine will crank but will not start why?

Do you have any codes or an engine light on, in your dash board ? Have you checked for spark at your plugs ? There are many things that could cause a vehicle to not start. Bad camshaft/crankshaft sensors. Poor ground wiring. Defective spark plugs or wires/coils.
