Carborator might have old gas stopping jets. Use some gas stabilizer (from Autozone) and try some carb cleaner. Take off air filter and spray in carb while engine is running. Fill up car with new gas.

compression minimum is 90-100 lbs on almost any engine. Below that it will not support compression. Typical compression on a mid 90's car 150-175 lbs.
